As Thunderbird is my mail reader of choice, I wouldn't be very happy if it were to disappear.

Since it is open source I hope that someone get the source code and continue developing it like what was done to OpenOffice.

Haven't really used Thunderbird, I used to till I found and started to use Outlook., and have stuck with that ever since.
