Microsoft's patch installs Skype, which by default makes MSN your home page and Bing your search engine
If you were somehow possessed to install the "optional" KB 2876229 patch, make sure you uncheck the correct installer boxes, or your Internet Explorer home page will be hijacked and the default search engine changed. That's the default behavior of this boorish Microsoft KB-numbered installer, pushed through the Windows Update chute.

They should have the checkboxes unchecked by default, allowing the user to check them if they want Bing as their homepage/search provider. Not the other way round, making them uncheck if they don't want it.

Thanks. I really hate it when I download something and then happen to find myself with other additional downloads or changes made to my computer preferences. It's like an unpleasant surprise. Forcing something on me is not going to make me like it more.

However, it's not clear nor stated in the optional Windows Update, 'Skype for Windows desktop 7.0', and it's the last place you would expect browser hijacking software (Bing Bar toolbar).

Better download Skype on their website or other trusted download repository so you can manage to uncheck those bundled stuffs.

At least optional than to be important update.
