Hello,
Do you have a list of recommended software to protect PCs?

I read the TwinHeaded Eagle items where he lists recommended reading and software,
and I wondered if the information is kept in a master guide in your site.

I could not find a guide by searching, but I may not have been able to find it if it exists.

Thank you,

Hi, you'll find those recommended reading links on the final comment that TwinHeaded Eagle posts on the solved threads in the Malware Removal Assistance area. Here's a shortcut to save you looking for one of those threads... http://malwaretips.com/threads/google-chrome-pricechaop-removal.41181/

There are also many browser extensions, such as AdBlockPlus, Web of Trust (WOT), HTTPS Everywhere, etc.

HTTPS Everywhere: https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere
AdblockPlus: https://adblockplus.org Works on Android,Chrome, Explorer, Firefox, Opera and Yandex
WOT: https://www.mywot.com/en/download Works on all major browsers

Other programs:

Malwarebytes Anti Exploit: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antiexploit/ Anti Exploit software
Secunia Personal Software Inspector: https://secunia.com/products/consumer/ Checks for vulnerabilities in your software that can be exploited
Unchecky: http://unchecky.com/ Useful if you download freeware (helps to dodge the bundled crapware that often comes with it)
CCleaner: https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download *NOTE* DO NOT USE THE REGISTRY CLEANER UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!

But one item of Anti-Malware software that just about everyone here seems to agree on is MBAM (Malwarebytes Anti Malware).
The paid version is a real time anti-malware suite that is designed to run alongside your current anti-virus.
The free version is an on demand scanner which you can run at anytime, but it lacks some of the features of the paid version.
It can be found here: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/

These are all free programs, and are only a tiny drop in the ocean compared to what is out there - but it's a start! :)

EDIT:
As far as I am aware, there isn't a dedicated list of recommended software to protect your PC on MT, as everybody's opinion seems to differ on each item of software. I can only say that I've built up my defences by searching around on the forums on here - there are too many good threads to mention! ;)

Firefox with Adblock Plus & Unchecky, are a must nowadays. HitmanPro.Alert is also good to have.
Windows Firewall + (AVAST or 360 Qihoo Total Security).
AdwCleaner for scanning weekly.
RunScanner for removing malware and leftover software (invalid drivers and so on), very good for security and stability.
