RE: Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5 & Online Armor Premium 5 combo

Good review(+REP).
I'm still waiting the day when Emsisoft will go big and basically offer us a full paid security suite EMA+OA , so that we won't be forced to use this combo.
Emsisoft is also selling this products in a bulk so their is no worries about any conflicts.
I have used in the past both products ,however never at once so I can't really say how they'll use the computer resources.

CONS : OAP is talkative and load many pop-ups (unless you select some options)
I have noticed that OA has really improved their white list so the alerts won't be generated very easily, however their is still a need for more user friendly alerts.

CONS : The price
I guess a user can install OA Free instead of the Premium version and save some money. :)

Thanks jack, they made OA++ that is basically this combo without Mamutu BB.
For the pop-ups , users can choose to not select some notification options like "prompt when running unknown programs", etc...
OA free has the basic necessary module, so it is, as you said, also a good choice.

Edit: i will add more details, pros or cons , if i observe something new.

Mamutu is a great apps, the best standalone BB imo. the "cloud" feature is very useful, and it has many tweaking options.

Mhm. I think it's one of the most powerful parts of the Emsisoft suite. It's an excellent defense against 0 days, it's very light, and it's very quiet.

RE: Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5 & Online Armor Premium 5 combo

EAM & OA [Free or Premium] is an excellent combo, I've been using it whenever possible for the last 3+ years.

OA may have the tendency to prompt often [which could be resolved to an extent with tweaking the settings], but at least the pop-ups are very informative and give you enough details to decide [helpful parent process and intended action info].

I was somewhat underwhelmed with the AV/AM integration in OA++ - although it is more that sufficient anti-executable [will only check a file before it's executed since the "File Guard" options of EAM aren't included], the scan component felt a bit too basic. Custom scans would need to be performed via shell integration. If suspicious files are found, you get the option to Allow, Block, and Delete - there didn't seem to be quarantine as such.
Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate using it if given an option - no-nonsense fusion of excellent Firewall/HIPS/AV/AM components.

And as Jack said, a better EAM + OA combo would be welcomed by many Emsisoft aficionados. That prospect was mentioned by the Emsisoft brass shortly after they acquired OA from Tall Emu, so here's hoping for Emsisoft Internet Security.

I never tried OA++ because i prefer the EAM+OAP combo. Having Mamutu is the big difference over OA++

edit: update the Original post (EAM 5 to 6, remove some cons, update the test links of EAM)

I too have used and enjoyed EAM and Online Armor. I have since moved to using GData Total Security 2012 and am eagerly awaiting the 2013 edition to be released here in the U.S. That is not to say anything negative about Emsisoft's products, I just seem to be happier with GData. Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Online Armor are both good products!
