FBI Virus - Freezes at Windows XP64 blue startup screen

Is it even possible anymore to restore this OS?

~ March of 2012. The usual FBI screen would appear. The more I rebooted the machine the worse it got, until it froze at the Microsoft Windows XP startup screen in all modes. I created another partition and loaded Win 7 (dual boot) and left XP alone. I now want to restore this XP drive.

I created an up to date bootable Kaspersky Rescue Disk as per the instructions. The program found three infections that were deleted. 1: Trojan.js.plugator.a 2: Exploit.win32.direktshow.a 3: Exploit.win32.pidief.bja. The system still freezes at the same Microsoft Windows XP startup screen.

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay for the repair.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

Hello,
Thank you for replying so quickly.
I downloaded and saved the FRST file to a flash drive, but the OTLPENet.exe won't extract (maybe 30% sometimes) saying

upload_2015-2-9_16-22-40.png

then this message:

upload_2015-2-9_16-17-16.png

then this also fails. Any suggestions, this never happened before?

There is no Extract command on an application, only Open and Run as an Administrator. I downloaded it a dozen or so times and just kept plugging away at it until it loaded and was able to make a ReatogoPE bootable disk.
I booted my system off the ReatogoPE disk and attempted to run the FRST application from the flasdrive as instructed. The FRST application would not run and it wouldn't run on my Win7 system either.

Don't you mean to download the FRST file again and again and keep plugging away at it as I did with the OTLPE file until that one ran? I can run the FRST file on my Win7 system to see if it runs OK can't I?

I downloaded it tonight and it works. I will try scanning tomorrow. Thanks, have a good evening

Excellent. Now I need one more search.

FRST.gif
FRST search

Once again we shall use FRST for additional checks. Re-run FRST/FRST64:
  • Copy User32.dll into the Search: field in FRST then click the Search Files button.
  • FRST will search your computer for files and when finished it will produce a log Search.txt in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach it to your reply.

Download attached fixlist.txt and save it to your USB flashdrive as fixlist.txt

>> Boot into Recovery Environment

Start FRST in a similar manner to when you ran a scan earlier, but this time when it opens ....
  • Press the Fix button once and wait.
  • FRST will process fixlist.txt
  • When finished, it will produce a log fixlog.txt on your USB flashdrive.

>> Exit out of Recovery Environment and post me the log please.

Try to boot Windows normally...

Hello, TwinHeadedEagle

Please see the attached "Fixlog.txt log file.
Upon booting Windows normally it first did a check disk then keeps looping between Windows XP64 startup screen and the systems startup screen.

Unfortunately, I cannot help you further, this is all I could do, you will need to reinstall XP, which I do not think it is a good idea, because this system isn't supported anymore by Microsoft.

I can have the Tech that removed the FBI virus from my wifes system come in and work on this one. The fix you had me perform last, can it be undone and brought back to where it was?

Fix didn't remove anything important, just some stopped services and temporary files, it didn't make any noticeable change to your system.
