That is a strange insinuation, given that I downloaded and updated a free upgrade to Win 10 offered by Microsoft on a computer running previously a genuine 8.1. I wonder what made you say that.

I am not sure what that is. When I searched on windows explorer, it does not show up. I am attaching a screen capture. If you cannot help may be I will reinstall my windows from a backup , hopefully that will fix it.Windows folder.jpg Windows (old) folder.jpg

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Thank you for your help. I ended up restoring the laptop from a back up that night, before I saw this, as my child needed it fixed right away. None the less I learned about what to do to prevent further infections from your blog . Thank you very much.
