K-Meleon is an open source browser which uses the Gecko engine developed by Mozilla.

K-Meleon is one of the lightest browser in the list, but they stopped the development on 2012 (Last release was on 12/12/2012). After a year they started the development again and released the first beta on 16th January 2014. Now on 8th August they have released the first release candidate after 3 Beta releases. The application do not have a 64 bit version.

You can read more and get the K-Meleon 74 Beta 4/ RC from here. Remember the latest version is in Release candidate stage which may have bugs and may not even work as expected. So if you were a K-Meleon user earlier we would like to hear from you about the new development. Leave a comment.

One of the simplest and fastest browser I've ever seen :)
I used to use it on older PCs, interface was ugly but the browser itself was not too bad for surfing :D
Hope they improve, I will try it!

K-Meleon 75.1 Beta
- Update to Gecko 31.8
- Change: moved bmpmenu into core, plugin bmpmenu now is only used for compatibility with older skins using menuicons.cfg
- Change: using gecko favicon cache (I may rollback this because it's unreliable and ugly)
- Change: improved autocomplete result display.
- Added: allow function declaration in macros, some main macros are now function, compat75 assure compatibility with older macros
- Added: macro function date(format[, time]). format: same as strftime, time: timestamp unix (nothing for current time)
- Added macro function download(url, path[, function]). Download file from "url" and save it in "path", then call the designated function.
- Added: kmeleon.display.urlbar_fontsize, this is a multiplier, default is 1
- Fixed: various minor memory leaks
- Fixed: losing sessions when disk full

They are all portable as well as K-Meleon 75.1b itself.

Every major build of KM has both installer and portable builds. Every minor and test build is portable only.

K-Meleon is Windows-only browser as it's based on native Windows GUI (MFC). But it works just fine under Wine ;-)

And it would be interesting to create Linux-oriented K-Meleon version with Gecko, macrolanguage and based on some popular GUI-toolkit. But this task needs new developers who have a wish to fork project.

K-Meleon 75.1 RC installer
K-Meleon 75.1 RC portable
Update 1

Last update allows override OS-inherited menu for URLbar with customizable KM menu. That gives us long awaited possibility to add 'Paste And Go' command here, for example.

You need to edit your menus.cfg file (use profile one to save your settings over all new updates) adding there this code:
Code:
URLBar{
!Edit
&Paste And Go=macros(Go_Paste)
}
...or feel free to change command list in 'URLBar' block for your needs.
This is K-Meleon - the most customizable browser ever!

P.S. More changes in this version:
  • favicons store type changed - all your favicon cache will be vanished at the first start and rebuilt in process of browsing;
  • more page focus problems solved;
  • 'Copy Link Text' command added to link context menu by default;
  • video/animation freezes while switching tabs fixed;
  • severe bug with clearing portable profiles under second update finally fixed.
