Love RealPlayer video thumbnails but don't love RealPlayer

I used RealPlayer up until my hard drive crash in early 2014. I loved RealPlayer's individualized thumbnails for the video files. I also liked the little download prompt that hovered above a video.

But RealPlayer wouldn't let me see some of my videos unless I upgraded to the Pro version. That's one of the most rotten software tricks I have come across. Is there any way I can get thumbnails for videos as with RealPlayer without having to use that program? It sure beats having a uniform VLC icon for every video.

actually if you install K-lite code pack and you can enable thumbnails using windows media player capabilities plus the fact that WMP will be able to play more formats, the downside here is as they are codecs you may face some problems, but at least for me i have 3 years using this pack and no problem so far

you would get something like this :D
