Microsoft has revealed that it will be joining the R Consortium as a founding member along side other industry heavyweights Google and Oracle.

The Linux Foundation recently announced the formation of the R Consortium with a view to create technical and user communities related to data science. The founding members of the R Consortium include major corporations such as Microsoft, Google, HP and Oracle as well as R software development companies RStudio and Tibcom among others. Through this consortium, they will be assisting developers and users by providing technical help and infrastructure.

Microsoft has been focused on data analytics in the cloud space for quite some time. Earlier this year, the company acquired Revolution Analytics, a firm specializing in the technology. The company believes that it can help developers, data scientists and enterprises with its efforts in the field through the R Consortium.

In the near future, more of Microsoft's products will come with R built-in and the company is investing in development of advanced analytics solutions for the cloud, on-premise and hybrid environments which could further benefit other members of the consortium.

As .NET framework became an open source then surely Microsoft's join part will make not very impossible to make Windows as open source but surely certain agreements will be measured and remain to be paid version.

Now in such thing of subscription based well let's see on how the big company announce, they leave some traces that can be really confusing.
