Windows 10 is a turning point for Microsoft, which hopes to recover after the Windows 8 disaster, so getting right every single feature of the new operating system is critical for the company.

Today, Redmond announced the official wallpaper which will be used in Windows 10, explaining that this photo is real and no Photoshop has been used to create it.

Instead, the company traveled to San Francisco to set up a studio where the Windows 10 logo was designed using light, lasers, and projectors to create the awesome effect that you can see in the video below.

“Blasting lasers, pumping smoke machines, colored filters and falling crystal dust. Not all desktop images are created equal. Take a look behind the scenes at the making of the iconic Windows 10 image in our collaboration with world renowned, San Francisco-based design director Bradley G. Munkowitz aka GMUNK,” Microsoft explained in the description of the video which you can watch below.

Trying to create new iconic wallpaper
With Windows 10, Microsoft is trying to create a new iconic wallpaper that would be at least as famous as Bliss, the official desktop background that was used in Windows XP.

Obviously, it all depends on how successful Windows 10 will actually be, but there's no doubt that the wallpaper plays a very important role for the overall look of the operating system, especially for first-time users who install the new Windows after July 29.

The wallpaper matches the dark theme of Windows 10, which is already available in the insider preview builds, so no surprise here. Obviously, it won't be animated, but Microsoft could use a similar animation for the boot screen in the final version of Windows 10.

Windows 10 will officially debut on July 29 and will be offered as a free upgrade for users running genuine Windows 7 or 8.1 on their computers. Enterprise customers still have to pay for Windows 10.

That's all they could come up with? Boooring. Regardless of how it was made, it just looks lazy. Bliss was bright and "happy"-looking. This just looks like some amateur Deviant Art guy got bored. I'm pretty sure this will get replaced by real wallpapers very quickly.

Way back when its picture of Bliss is iconic however its present generations came, the actual picture differ already as looks pale and dry already.

But anyway that wallpaper should better place on boot screen (animated).

Maybe, I don't know, I just think if you're going to sell a product it should look great from top to bottom. If you're bound and determined to go this direction, at the very minimum make this use all the colors of the Windows logo. Vista looked better, and it was a mostly black screen, lol.
