Microsoft will begin rolling out Windows 10 to Xbox One preview users soon

Xbox One users in the gaming machine's preview program will soon get Windows 10 on their consoles, with the update scheduled to arrive "over the next couple of weeks."

In a blog post on the official Xbox Wire website, Mike Ybarra, director of program management for Xbox, said the update is scheduled to arrive for all Xbox One users in November alongside the console's backwards compatibility feature for Xbox 360 games. When the update arrives, Ybarra says the console will be "faster and more social than ever."

"Integrating the speed of Windows 10, the New Xbox One Experience will get you to popular gaming features up to 50 percent faster," he wrote. "Instantly start a party, see what your friends are playing, and get updates to your recently played games from Home with no wait time."

New features within the update include a redesigned home screen, a community section for social interactions, revamped TV features such as a new OneGuide and picture-in-picture channel viewing, and an "optimized" store for easier ways to find content.

Windows 10 should help Microsoft amass a much larger store, with developers now able to bring their desktop and mobile apps to the gaming console. Several companies, such as Fitbit, have already promised to bring their apps to the Xbox One's expanded store.

Ybarra said the update will roll out to preview members over time, starting with "members who have historically submitted the most feedback." The plan is to start with one group, get feedback, add another group, get feedback and repeat the process. When preview members are part of a new group, they'll receive an invitation from Xbox Live to opt-in to the update. Those who choose not to install the update will still receive other preview program features.
