Windows 10 will launch on July 29 as a free upgrade for users running genuine Windows 7 and 8.1, and Microsoft has already announced a campaign called “Upgrade Your World” to encourage everyone to upgrade their communities to the new operating system.

Microsoft employees will take a day off to upgrade their communities as part of this new effort, and the Redmond tech giant now reveals that, if you bring your device in an official store on July 29, you can upgrade it to Windows 10 free of charge if you qualify for the offer.

Basically, if you want your Windows 7 or 8.1 device to be upgraded to Windows 10 without you moving a single finger, but also to do the process with professional support and address any problem that might arise, just go pay a visit to a Microsoft store on July 29 and you’re all done.

Surface upgrades
At the same time, Microsoft says that new Surface tablets running Windows 10, including Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3, will be up for grabs for customers very soon, but no timing details have been provided.

In the meantime, you can get your Surface 3 or Pro 3 from the Microsoft store on July 29 and get it upgraded to Windows 10 free of charge as part of the aforementioned program.

“As with any Windows launch, we are working quickly to stock shelves with Windows 10 devices, including Surface. While you can expect to see Surface devices running Windows 10 on shelves soon, Windows 8.1 devices still provide an exceptional experience and are easily upgraded to Windows 10 for free. Additionally, all Microsoft Stores have the ability to upgrade new devices to Windows 10 on site,” Microsoft told WindowsCentral in a statement.

If you do not qualify for the free upgrade, Windows 10 is up for grabs for $119.99 for the Home version and for $199.99 for the Pro package in the United States.
