The SeaMonkey project is a community effort to develop the SeaMonkey Internet Application Suite (see below). Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email & newsgroup client with an included web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users.

Under the hood, SeaMonkey uses much of the same Mozilla Firefox source code which powers such products as Thunderbird. Legal backing is provided by the SeaMonkey Association (SeaMonkey e.V.).

Mozilla SeaMonkey 2.35 is an all-in-one internet application suite: tabbed web-browser, advanced e-mail and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editing made simple – all your Internet needs in one application. Such a software suite was previously made popular by Netscape and Mozilla, and the SeaMonkey project continues to develop and deliver high-quality updates to this concept. Containing an Internet browser, email and newsgroup client with an included web feed reader, HTML editor, IRC chat and web development tools, Mozilla SeaMonkey is sure to appeal to advanced users, web developers and corporate users. Powered by Mozilla Under the hood, SeaMonkey uses much of the same Mozilla source code which powers such successful siblings as Firefox and Thunderbird.

Building on the same Mozilla platform as the newest Firefox release, it delivers the latest developments in web technologies such as HTML5, hardware acceleration and improved JavaScript speed.

SeaMonkey has inherited the successful all-in-one concept of the original Netscape Communicator and continues that product line based on the modern, cross-platform architecture provided by the Mozilla project.

• The Internet browser at the core of the SeaMonkey suite uses the same rendering engine and application platform as its sibling Mozilla Firefox, with popular features like tabbed browsing, feed detection, popup blocking, smart location bar, find as you type and a lot of other functionality for a smooth web experience.
• The Mail and Newsgroups client shares lots of code with Mozilla Thunderbird and features adaptive Junk mail filtering, tags and mail views, web feeds reading, tabbed messaging, multiple accounts, S/MIME, address books with LDAP support and is ready for both private and corporate use.
• Additional components include an easy-to-use HTML Editor, the ChatZilla IRC chat application and web development tools like a DOM Inspector and a JavaScript debugger.
• If that’s still not enough, SeaMonkey can be extended with numerous Add-Ons that provide additional functionality and customization for a complete Internet experience

Sea Monkey's description could have been titled "Coming Home".
It is definitely an app suite I've wanted to try for a while ..and not just for old times sake!;)

Thank you for sharing this, @sinu. Eleven days from your posting, your thread caught my eye and sparked my imagination!:):)

SeaMonkey 2.53.17 released on August 4, 2023

This version of SeaMonkey makes changes to your profile that can't be reverted in the case where you want to go back to a version earlier than 2.53.1. You MUST absolutely do a full backup of your profile before using this application.
SeaMonkey 2.53.17 contains (among other changes) the following major changes relative to SeaMonkey 2.53.16:
  • Fix macOS Contacts permission request bug 1826719.
  • Remove SeaMonkey 2.57 links from debugQA bug 1829683.
  • Treat opening urls from the library as external bug 1619108.
  • Disable spam warning for autogenerated links in plaintext messages bug 619031.
  • Switch SeaMonkey build files to Python 3 bug 1635849.
  • Remove empty overlays from Composer bug 1828533.
  • Move xpfe autocomplete to comm-central suite bug 1418512.
  • Remove nsIPrefBranch2 and nsIPrefBranchInternal bug 1374847.
SeaMonkey 2.53.17 contains (among other changes) the following major changes relative to SeaMonkey 2.49.5:
  • The Bookmarks Manager has switched its name to Library, and now also includes the History list. When History is invoked, the Library will be shown with the History list selected. The extensive modifications were needed because of Mozilla Gecko platform API changes.
  • Download Manager has been migrated to a new API. Although it looks pretty much the same as before, the search option is missing and some other minor details work differently. The previous downloads history is removed during the upgrade.
  • The layout panel was added to the CSS Grid tools.
  • TLS 1.3 is the default SSL version now.
  • Support for all NPAPI plugins like Flash, Java and Silverlight has been removed. For displaying pdf files in the browser you can use pdf.js-seamonkey from Isaac Schemm.
  • SeaMonkey now uses a new api for formatting regional data like time and date. Default is to use the application locale of the current SeaMonkey build. If you use a language pack or a different OS formatting this is usually not desired. You can change the formatting from the application locale to the regional settings locale (OS) in the preferences dialog under "Appearance".
SeaMonkey 2.53.17 uses the same backend as Firefox and contains the relevant Firefox 60.8 security fixes.

SeaMonkey 2.53.17 shares most parts of the mail and news code with Thunderbird. Please read the Thunderbird 60.8.0 release notes for specific security fixes in this release.

Additional important security fixes up to Current Firefox 102.11 and Thunderbird 102.11 ESR plus many enhancements have been backported. We will continue to enhance SeaMonkey security in subsequent 2.53.x beta and release versions as fast as we are able to.
