There are probably more like it, but this was the one I chose. It has a learning curve (I took maybe 1/2 reading the manual before starting, and still do during playing), but kind of fun now.
It isn't a visual game...you have planets that you build the mines, factories, research labs, and places for people to live. So you have to balance the amount of people against jobs. You also have to make sure you have good population growth so you can colonize more planets, and good defenses on the planets.
At first the game is a bit boring...you build buildings and wait for more people so you can snap up as many planets as possible. I joined an alliance quickly, so I'm safe so far.
So you build starships and fleets and train officers, and coordinate attacks with others in alliance (you can assign fleets to the alliance general).
A game lasts maybe two months or so. Good if you want a little strategy game you can quickly check on in free time. Also nice if you have a somewhat slow laptop, like me.
