G DATA Mobile Malware Report: almost 5000 new mobile malware strains every day. 06/30/2015 | Bochum Mobile banking and online shopping are booming. 41 percent of Europeans use a smartphone or tablet for their banking transactions. Another 19 percent plan to switch to mobile banking in the coming year, according to ING Bank. This is a trend that has attracted the attention of cyber criminals with special malware. Forced subscriptions via premium SMS or calls, extortion via ransomware and remote control of money transfers during mTAN processes: an analysis carried out by G DATA security experts has revealed that over 50 percent of Android malware has a direct financial motivation. Overall the analysts discovered over 440,000 new Android malware strains in the first quarter of 2015. A new mobile malware strain for Android is discovered every 18 seconds.
