These videos are a little old but still a very good resource. I hope they can help somone who is interested in Compiling their own Linux kernel. It's also worth subscribing to OhHeyItsLou He has some great tutorials that may help.
I'm also going to add a seperate video by Spatry, in which he shows you how to update your kernel using the .deb files from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
Please note that if you start upgrading your kernel by yourself, then you will also be responsible for keeping it updated. Also; updating the Linux kernel can cause problems although these problems are easily rectified. If you install a new kernel and you have problems you can simply boot to you previous kernel by hold the shift key at boot ans selecting the older kernel. If you're dual/multi booting there's no need to hold ##### as you'll see the GRUB menu anyway.
Anyway, this quick tutorial is simple to follow should you want to upgrade your kernel on an Ubuntu based distro.
