So, about an hour ago my PC started acting up, no surprise there (it's an old computer). I launched startup repair, waited, then logged back on. Then boom, this file with a "setup.exe" type icon called F7C16C popped up on my desktop. What is this file? Does anyone know?
Thanks.

P.S: when I hover over it the description is "click to install F7C16C"

Yes I did download a file. It was a Minecraft texture pack.
Also, I haven't even clicked the file yet. And, I cannot locate it.

It's a custom installer, if you would have run this program it would have installed adware, browser hijackers or other unwanted programs on your PC...You can delete it, and just to make sure your system is clean, please run a scan with:

1. AdwCleaner - https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/
2. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free- https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/
3. HitmanPro - http://www.surfright.nl/en/HitmanPro
4. ESET Online Scanner - http://download.eset.com/special/eos/esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe
All the above tools are are on-demand scanners, meaning that they will not interfere with your antivirus, and will only scan when you start them.
What antivirus are you using? : )

AVG. Although, I haven't subscribed.
AVG is a good antivirus but it has its down side when it comes to detecting this "Potentially Unwanted Programs", please perform a scan with the above tools to make sure your system is clean, and then you can start a thread in the "Security Configuration Wizard" forum to better secure your PC.

TIP: Download files only from trusted sources.
You can drastically reduce the risk of an infection by knowing what and from where you are downloading a file.
As a general rule it’s recommended that you download files from known and reputable sites that have confirmed that the download is malware free.
If you are unsure about the quality of a download, leave the site and research the software you are being asked to install. If it is OK, you can always come back to site and install it. If it is not OK, you will avoid a malware headache.

We recommend that you install a site advisor like Web of Trust or Norton Safe Web, which will help you decide if the site is trustworthy or not.

Once you are done cleaning the system, it might be helpful to change your email accounts passwords in case there was any keyloggers on the system. Before you replace those passwords, make sure to install something like spyshelter free first or maybe even keyscrambler.

You also might want to use Sandboxie to protect your web browsing.
