Microsoft’s Gabe Aul has confirmed the first Windows 10 for phones (aka Windows Phone 10) was just released.

Users will need to install the Windows Insider app from the store to upgrade to the preview build, which will go live later today. Although Microsoft said every phone would get Windows 10, the preview doesn’t support all current Windows 8.1 devices right away.

Windows 10 Technical Preview currently works with the following phones:

  • Lumia 630
  • Lumia 635
  • Lumia 636
  • Lumia 638
  • Lumia 730
  • Lumia 830
Ina addition to being one of the supported models, your phone will need to have at least 8GB of storage and must be running Windows 8.1 (Denim not required). Some phones, regions, and mobile operators might not support Technical Preview, China for example isn’t included in the preview program.

The initial list of supported phones will surely disappoint many users, especially users on high-end devices like the Lumia 1520, but Microsoft says it’s committed to bringing support for more Windows Phone models worldwide.
