There's some talk online that the Windows 10 Start menu has started showing ads on your desktop, a thing that's pretty much unacceptable for lots of users out there and which obviously affects the already damaged image of the new operating system even more.

While having ads in the Windows 10 Start menu is quite a deal breaker because, let's admit it, nobody wants advertisements on their desktops, there's something really important that needs to be mentioned here.

These so-called ads are nothing more than app suggestions based on the programs you installed from the store and which Microsoft considers to be helpful for you. They're more like apps that are similar to the ones you already downloaded, so they're not exactly the traditional ads you can find online.

You can disable them
Needless to say, not everyone wants app suggestions to show in the Start menu, especially if universal apps are not their cup of tea, but Microsoft knows that already and is offering a very easy way to disable them.

To do just that, simply launch the Settings screen and navigate to the following path: Personalization > Start > Occasionally show suggestions in Start.

The first time we reported about these “ads” was on September 25, and since then, more users have started seeing suggestions in the Start menu, especially as they explored the items in the store looking for universal apps.

But before anything, there is an option to disable these suggestions from showing up, which is something that everyone should have in mind when accusing Microsoft for invading their desktop with ads.

Truth is, Microsoft has a bad reputation of invading users' privacy in Windows 10, and the data collection saga definitely had a negative impact on the new operating system, so the software giant should better find a way to set things straight in this and explain once and for all what these suggestions actually are and how they show up on our PCs.

not 'ads' but 'suggestions' - apps suggested by Windows Store.
this suggestions can be easly dissabled

I don't see, in my opinion, any problems with this however many users are not pleased with this strategy by the Microsoft.
