There are advantages with both sides:
Intel is able to process 2x more instructions in 1mhz than AMD. Intel uses less power, has better technology and is much better with apps that uses single core.
AMD is cheaper, and only thing better is that it is a little better with video editing and similar apps that uses more cores. But if you're video editor who does it professionally, then you will surely buy Intel worth 1000$.
Only thing Radeon is better is overall specifications, it has more memmory and so on.
But Nvidia has amazing software and technology and optimization is perfect and better than AMD. I played GTA IV with C2D and 9500GT, when some guys with more powerfull AMD cards couldn't get 20fps.
