Yes you are correct, 2011 TuneUp is acquired by AVG Technologies.

It makes me wonder why they market two different products which are the exact same except for the name.

I noticed after version 2009, the product became bloated and actually made my pc run slower with all of the extra Windows Services and processes constantly running in the background.

I switch to IObit Advanced SystemCare Free which allows you to disable all Services and processes running in the background. So you can easy exit it and not worry. TuneUp was the best back in the days now IObit has taken its place and is free. You can schedule auto maintenance with Task Scheduler on IObit, instead of it constantly running like TuneUp does.

Of coarse I never like auto maintenance, I prefer to do it manually.

With all of the totally free maintenance tools available, it makes me wonder why anyone would want to use a paid version.

Take your pick, there is CCleaner, Glary Utilities, Wise Care 365 Free, Baidu PC Faster, WinUtilities Free Edition, Ashampoo WinOptimizer Free 2013, Puran Utilities, Toolwiz Care, Eusing Utilities, Tweak Me, Argente Utilities, Auslogics Disk Defrag, Registry Defrag and Registry Cleaner, etc.

Most are just as good or even better then TuneUp.

Performance Tuneup
AVG includes a button titled Fix Performance, but it's just a fraction misleading. Clicking the button does launch an analysis that identifies file and Registry problems that might be slowing your PCs performance. However, when you click Fix Now it opens a Web page for the separate AVG PC TuneUp product, which costs $39.99.

On the plus side, you can fix problems once for free. Actually, your one free use lasts 24 hours, so you could run it as many times as you want. On the minus side, the PC TuneUp tool makes no use of the scan and analysis already performed by AVG; it has to perform its own scan.

Basically it does nothing in the free version, gives you a so-called free scans, it will fix problems in the first 24 hour after installing it, then asks you to pay. So it is like a 24 hour advertising promo, that's it.
