RE: Avira AntiVir 10 Service Pack 2 Beta

How can I install the new Avira Toolbar after updating to SP2?

Link

Important note: WebGuard component will be only available as long as the new Avira Toolbar is installed.

Any thoughts on this? There is a free toolbar with webguard however it was powered by ask.com

I can't tell you how much i hate tool bars. If they offered the web filtering in the free version with the tool bar i could see why they might want avira with a tool bar. But the paid product should not force users to install the tool bar. Tool bars are crap and slow everything down.

As far I read it, Avira Toolbar was only in free version, showed in the picture.

I can't see this being a popular choice amongst Avira Free users.
Such that the Toolbar is required for WebGuard and (AFAIK) compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox.

From here it makes it look to be "Ask Toolbar with WebGuard" and not an Avira toolbar using Ask for searching capabilities.

Hope that made sense.

RE: Avira AntiVir 10 Service Pack 2 Beta

As far as I know the Ask toolbar is only for the free version, if the user
wants Webguard, the user has to install the Ask toolbar. This is bad
news and NOT the only bad news coming out of Avira this last few
days. I have been following this thread at the Avira forum for the last
few days. From post#10 you ll get the picture about Avira and the
Ask toolbar. If you read the whole thread you ll get the whole story
about some other bad stuff that Avira is doing at this time.
http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=131604

I am saddened by this.

bo.elam, just went there before, on that topic its too horrible if they will partnership with Uniblue since it was a controversial product. Then next ask toolbar powered with webguard, still undecided if I would install it.

I would not install the toolbar if I was you, forget about the webguard
and instead use Sandboxie. If you do, you wont need a webguard.
Many antiviruses detect Ask as a potential unwanted program. In the
past, EVEN Avira detected it.
Personally, I dislike any toolbar, don't matter what it is and this one
is on top of the list of unwanted ones.

Ok, personally when I saw that avira having a Webguard in free version I was amazed but when it was bundled in Ask toolbar just became disappointed.

I think everybody is disappointed. The Uniblue thing is even worst,
just be careful with ANY popup from Avira and don't add nothing
until this thing is resolved.

The SP2 will be released soon, but the release date is still an internal matter. We cannot disclose or provide more information.

RE: Avira AntiVir 10 Service Pack 2 Beta

Does the Ask Toolbar plus WebGuard provide the same level of protection as in the paid versions?

Of course it's limited to toolbar compatible web browsers (correct me if wrong).

RE: Avira AntiVir 10 Service Pack 2 Beta

Post by the moderator in Avira Forum.

There is no need to check Ask as default search engine, and the toolbar could be disabled in IE or Firefox without losing WebGuard feature for AntiVir personal users. Nothing changes to AntiVir Premium or Avira Premium Security Suite users.
