7zip has not released a new version for years. So people using new verion of windows are recommended to use it.

Hate to break it to you, but 7-zip is working great on Windows 8.1. It's a myth that you need a new software release for it to work on a new OS. There are exceptions for certain software types, ie. Security software for compatibility. Also I haven't seen a new archive format that it cannot handle and anyway most people upload archives in recognised formats like .zip or .rar.

BandiZip is using 7zip as the archiver. They both should have the same compression performance and speed.

Edit: I'm not sure, BandiZip offers more compression formats than 7-Zip. However, there are 7-Zip files in C:\Users\<Username>\AppData\Local\Bandizip\7z

I use it for years. It's fast, lightweight comfortable. It has utilities such as "create folder" from the context menu. It is one of the few programs 100% recommended, definitely :)

Obviously the best freeware out there in it's category. Been a long time user of 7-zip and then moving onto Haozip and finally settling with Bandizip.

I use both on my system for different purposes. I use Bandizip the most (7zip simply for power user options if and when I need them).

Bandizip is faster at compression due to it's "High Speed Archiving" setting: Bandizip - Download Free Zip Archiver to open ZIP, RAR, 7z files

This setting is on by default and does not affect the compression ratio. So while getting that high compression rate using 7z format, it can also do it faster than 7zip proper by utilizing its own features. Yeah, Bandizip has advantages... and many of its own goodies. Including a simple but nice looking UI.

Let's not forget about that sweet setting that allows double click auto extraction. Something I haven't seen any other tool do. Not on by default.
