Video game developer Sledgehammer Games and publisher Activision are announcing that they are offering the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for free on Steam during the coming weekend in order to allow gamers who have not yet experienced the first-person shooter to see the new mechanics that it has to offer.

Gamers can head over to the digital distribution service from Valve right now and download the game and they will be able to play without any kind of restriction until 1 PM Pacific Time on February 22.

13 multiplayer maps and a variety of modes are offered and gamers will be able to customize their characters however they see fit and see how use of the exo-skeleton makes the entire experience feel new.

The game also offers energy weapons and other near future items which change the dynamic of the series and make it more attractive to newcomers.

The official announcement on the game's blog adds, "For those that want to play on past the weekend, both the standard and Digital Pro Edition are also available at discount for a limited time. Best of all, the Multiplayer progress earned during the free weekend will be waiting for you when you've purchased the full game."

The free Steam weekend for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is linked to the coming launch of the Havoc downloadable content pack, which is set to be offered on February 26 and introduces four new maps, a weapon and the Exo Zombies mode.
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has three more DLC pack coming
It would have been nice for Sledgehammer Games and Activision to also offer a trial version of the game for free over the weekend on the PlayStation 4 and PS3, which also get havoc next week.

The same content has been offered on the Xbox One and the 360 since late January and the two companies are working on another three big DLC packs for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Sledgehammer Games will probably continue to pack four maps, one weapon and a new Exo Zombies chapter in each of them and the next delivery will probably happen in late March.

Treyarch is already working on a new Call of Duty title that will be launched in the fall of this year but no official information has been offered about it so far.
