IE and Firefox both go to "not responding" state after a few minutes of running. Can't get Malwarebytes Pro scan to run or McAfee scan to run. Malwarebytes was running earlier but also went to not responding after about 2 minutes. It got as far as detecting 2 objects but then froze. I can only re-boot but using the power button on my PC. Please help fix this issue. Right now I am using IE just fine on my PC to post this thread.

Just a little update..... I've been running Firefox just fine for the last 15 minutes. No unresponsive errors. Malwarebytes still freezes. Tried to get into my windows live mail and that won't open. Also can't get task manager to come up.

Hi Jcornell16 and welcome to MalwareTips! :)

I'm Fiery and I would gladly assist you in removing the malware on your computer.

Before we start:
  • Note that the removal process is not immediate. Depending on the severity of your infection, it could take a long time.
  • Malware removal can be dangerous. I cannot guarantee the safety of your system as malware can be unpredictable. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system. Therefore, I would advise you to backup all your important files before we start.
  • Please be patient and stay with me until I give you the green lights and inform you that your PC is clean.
  • Some tools may be flagged by your antivirus as harmful. Rest assure that ALL the tools we use are safe, the detections are false positives.
  • The absence of symptoms does not mean your PC is fully disinfected.
  • If you are unclear about the instructions, please stop and ask. Following the steps in the order that I post them in is vital.
  • Lastly, if you have requested help on other sites, that will delay and hinder the removal process. Please only stick to one site.

<hr>
Download OTL by Old Timer from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click on OTL.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan All Users checkbox.
  • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check
  • Click on Run Scan at the top left hand corner.
  • When done, two Notepad files will open.
    • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
    • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized
  • Please attach the contents of these 2 Notepad files in your next reply.

If you don't know how to attach the files, please follow the instructions here: http://malwaretips.com/Thread-How-to-use-the-attachment-system?pid=16072#pid16072

Sorry.....tried several times and can't get through a scan. Seems no matter what program I open on my computer it goes to "not responding" after a few minutes. Then I have to use the power button to reboot because the traditional restart won't work.

I downloaded Farbar to my flash drive from another computer. I followed these instructions and when I type in I:\frst64 at the command prompt it says it is not recognized as an internal or external command, parable program or batch file.

Are you sure that the drive is I?

Also, are you sure that this is a 64 bit version of windows?

Hi,

Open notepad and copy & paste the following:

S2 Browser Manager; C:\ProgramData\Browser Manager\2.6.1125.80\{16cdff19-861d-48e3-a751-d99a27784753}\browsemngr.exe [2569168 2013-03-06] ()
C:\ProgramData\Browser Manager
folder: C:\Users\Bobnjill\Local Settings\Application Data\{38ADB100-1D49-43D1-B061-F2183D6FACAA}
folder: C:\Users\Bobnjill\Local Settings\Application Data\{CF345316-AC50-4ED8-A5D9-103CDB253290}
folder: C:\Users\Bobnjill\Local Settings\Application Data\{662B1940-7C0C-4F9D-8B99-359CDBFF913C}
folder: C:\Users\Bobnjill\Local Settings\Application Data\{49A1BAC2-4CC3-4FED-8052-98A909EFABCE}
folder: C:\Users\Bobnjill\Local Settings\Application Data\{DB478013-A1BA-4951-90C9-A0A8981156A0}

and save it as fixlist.txt onto your flash drive.

Then, boot to system recovery, plug in your flash drive, open FRST and click fix. Post the generated log.

Boot back up normally and try to run a malwarebytes scan. Let me know if your PC is still unresponsive.

Try this.

Start your computer in Safe Mode with Networking.

  • Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then <>restart your computer</>.</li>
    [*]<>Tap the "F8 key" continuously</> until you get the Advanced Boot Options screen.</li>
    [*]On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to <>highlight Safe Mode with Networking</> , and then <>press ENTER</>.

<br>
<img title="Safe Mode with Networking screen" src="http://malwaretips.com/images/removalguide/safemode.jpg" alt="[Image: Safemode.jpg]" width="539" height="292" border="0" /></li>
</ol>

<h2> Step 2: Download and run RKill</h2>
Download mirror 1 - Download mirror 2 - Download mirror 3

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click the RKill desktop icon.
  • It will quickly run. If it does not run, try another download link from above.
<img title="RKILL Command prompt" src="http://malwaretips.com/images/removalguide/rkill2.png" alt="[Image: run-rkill-2.png]" width="507" height="256" border="0" />
  • When Rkill has completed its task, it will <>generate a log</>. You can then <>proceed with the rest of the guide</>.

<img title="RKILL LOG" src="http://malwaretips.com/images/removalguide/rkill3.png" alt="[Image: XP Defender 2013 rkill3.jpg]" width="414" height="187" border="0" /></li>
</ol><br>
<br><>WARNING: Do not reboot your computer after running RKill as the malware process will start again , preventing you from properly performing the next step.</>

Then proceed to run a scan with Malwarebytes
