I noticed with today’s update there is a 'privacy' section. I only just noticed it but was gob-smacked that on the Pro ‘AKA Paid’ for version I was opted in by default to share into. How they have the temerity to do this is beyond me. I can live with it on the free but not that the paid, one thing is certain, I will never buy it again. The idea of using it in the first place was I thought to erase data not share it? (the boxes were by default checked)

Local Host

Is blocked on my Firewall, like all the Software that doesn't need to be Online in the first place. So I'm not worried.

Thanks for sharing the information though.

  • Removed Font Cache cleaning temporarily while we resolve an incompatibility with the Windows 10 April Update
  • Added preference to select the level of detail on the Cleaning Results screen
  • Added new Privacy menu

Thanks, I have now unticked those checkboxes.
Avast is slowly killing CCleaner with tricks like this...
Unfortunately I have not found a better and as user friendly replacement.

Privacy Eraser can easily replace Ccleaner. It's free.. You just pay if you want DOD wiping. They are very comparable products but Privacy Eraser doesn't harvest ANY telemetry and only checks for updates when executed but even that can be turned off.

Toss Ccleaner to the curb.

CCleaner still does a better job cleaning web storage in Google Chrome than Privacy Eraser unfortunately.

It appears you can only uncheck them on the professional edition.

I sense a great disturbance in the force...

This means what we all feared.. The free version is basically a spy tool and you can't uncheck the spying but rather need to block it with host file or firewall. In which case they KNOW 90% of the free users of it will not even know how to do that. So in effect, it's a spy tool.

Here's a trick if you insist on Ccleaner.. You can install an old version of Ccleaner. Before they had their update channels compromised, before Avast bought them. Before the monitoring crap. It runs just fine. Windows will throw off an application compatibility warning to which you just rename the Ccleaner executable to 1234.exe which bypasses the application compatibility checker.

For me, a combo of Privacy Eraser Pro and Wise Cleaner Free (portable) handles everything nicely. Chrome has Auto History Delete extension which handles all of the extra chrome junk nicely - automatically - on browser close.

I use it in pirated pro version without crack or keygens, I do not see any problems with share info.:p

Nothing surprises me anymore.

One of my technicians removed riskware, bloatware and toolbars from a machine today. The customer called and complained saying they liked the coupon toolbar and popups redirecting to 'deals' and wanted the riskware put back on immediately.

I use Wise Disk Cleaner free for Edge and BleachBit for everything else. Oh, don't forget MS Storage Sense. Just waiting for some coder to make an Edge cleaner for Bleachbit. If that happens I'll use it with the MS built-in.

I ran Privacy Eraser first then CCleaner, and CCleaner found nothing on Google Chrome after Privacy Eraser deleted all the Google Chrome junks. Did you check everything under Google Chrome except the Compact Database in Privacy Eraser?
