Hello,

Sorry if a thread like this has already been started. I cannot seem to find one about it.

Which do you prefer? Why?

Which is the best, in terms of:
-Overall Features?
-Detection?
-Removal?
-HIPS?
-User Interface?
-RAM Usage?
-Etc (anything else you may want to add)

My Vote goes to ESET, even if it's a paid suite.
Though I do prefer the Antivirus only (NOD32).

Detection - No comment, I use other methods and knowledge / common sense to avoid these situations.
Removal - No comment, I avoid getting infected in the first place.

Comodo uses scare-ware tactics on detection and removal for it's first time detection and new users, to lure them to use the GeekBuddy (ie. Installs more software).

Sandbox / BB / HIPS - Prefer not to use HIPS. I don't like the Auto-Sandbox initiated by the BB in Comodo.

UI - ESET has a simple and easy to use UI. Comodo releases new UI with every major release, there is no flow in their products.

RAM - Usage is a bit high for most, but it doesn't eat up the CPU (like experience from the cmdagent in Comodo). RAM shouldn't be an issue, if you have more than 2GB RAM.

Web Protection - ESET has Web protection to protect you from bad sites. Comodo is limited to their DNS service, which some may not like.

Anti-Theft - ESET has a new service called Anti-Theft for your PC (and mobile?)

Other Services - ESET released a new Social Scanner for your Facebook privacy and protection (which is free).

The free version of CIS 6 is just as good as the premium version.CIS 6 has behavior blocker and also a sandbox.Has very good detection/removal.User interface takes a bit of getting used to.Memory usage was not a problem for my system.

ESS 6 has good Detection with HIPS but keep in mind that HIPS has to be "trained" and by default this is set to automatic. You really need to set this to learning mode so that HIPS can be "trained" to take full advantage of its protection. The GUI is more user friendly than CIS 6.As far as memory usage,ESS 6 is higher than previous versions but then again I it was never a problem on my system.

I think the only way you are going to know which one is the best is to try them both for yourself.CIS 6 has a free version and ESS 6 gives you a fully functional 30 day trial.

Trying them both on your system under your personal computing habits is the only way to tell which is the best fit for you.

As for the poll I voted for ESS 6 just because CIS 6 Premium offers no protection advantages over the free version and in my opinion is a waste of money.

Sorry by Premium I meant Paid versions.I was quoting the poll thinking that the OP was talking about the Pro version which costs around $20 or the Complete version which costs around $40 since he was putting it against ESS 6 which is a paid version.

The 3 choices for CIS 6 are:

Comodo Internet Security > Free

Comodo Internet Security Pro > $20

Comodo Internet Security Complete > $40

There is actually no "Premium" version

Thank you for your reply! :) I still like COMODO. I'm not to fond of Eset's HIPS. I tried out the trail and I couldn't get it to configure properly. Most products I have tried. I have always came crawling back to COMODO. I found that COMODO uses very little memory. Oh and I have 4GB of RAM. :)

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I am using the regular free version of CIS which is the premium version. I think the paid version is called complete. I did try out Eset as a trial and the HIPS confused me a lot. I can use COMODO's HIPS no problem. But I couldn't get Eset's to work properly. It kept changing back to automatic on me. I uninstalled it before the trail was over and went back to CIS. :)

I like using freeware. Some freeware is even better then paid.

Also The problem with COMODO is that it used to be good security software but now with all of its scareware tactics many prefer to choose other solutions because COMODO turned its back to its users.

ESS 6 takes a little tweaking thats for sure and CIS 6 is pretty good on default settings.I really dont think you can go wrong with CIS 6,I ran it on windows 8 for quite a while and really liked it.Right now I have ESS 6 on Windows 8 as I have not really given ESS a run since the RC version

why i voted comodo is based on prevention and detection,i really liked the improvement they made since v5.8 to the antivirus engine! but still eset is a decent suite which i kinda like light and decent detection! depends on what you used it for if you like to download patch cracks keygen then i'll say comodo is better for you ;)

Hello,

I don't think I can go wrong either. It's doing it's job just fine and I haven't been infected yet. I don't know how it turned it's back against it's users like the guy above said. It seems to be working amazing for me. I have finally learned how to use version 6. :p

Eset on the other hand is a bit challenging. Good to know I am not the only one who is having trouble configuring it right.

Hello,

I personally use CIS without any problems. It's very light. I just checked and right now it's hovering just under 20MB. VERY light.

:eek:fftopic:
I used the trial of KIS 2013 and it used 100MB on idle and during a full system scan that shot right up to 500MB and almost 100% CPU. That's just outrageous. It took the PC awhile to boot up too. I had to uninstall it right away. Even that took forever. I love KIS. But I would really like it if they could just improve the memory usage. I'm sure I am not alone! :)

yup i use cis too its one of the lightest suite i don't like KIS i don't like bloatware suites like BIS AND KIS you can feel they make some impact on your system even if you run quadcore! your bootime will increase there are many light suites now like CIS avast eset etc no need to use suites which are heavy like that! i guess kis users will be happy if they fix this issue ;)

I use KIS 2013 and the only impact I notice on my system is the boot time which I can live with for the protection.Just because you have a quad core doesnt mean that its going to run anything better. The amount of ram, other programs and software you have installed and running in the background have an impact also.

I dont know why your getting 100MB from KIS on idle or 500MB during a scan with 100% CPU.Right now KIS on my system is less than 10MB idle and running a scan about 36MB.I have task manager running,Chrome running and performing a scan with KIS and my CPU is less than 35% CPU and less than 30% memory.

You can argue back and forth for eternity and still not have an answer that everyone agrees on.Sure there are some that arent very good and you probably should take a pass on but those arent any of the big players in the Security software business

Basically if it runs well on your system and it keeps you malware/virus free and you are comfortable using it ,then thats what you should be using!

Since i used both for a long time:

Detection: ESET > CIS, check our malware hub
Signature Updates: ESET > CIS, ESET releases new signature very fastly, few hours after submitting samples.
Prevention: CIS > ESET, Both have HIPS, but ESET one is very young, CIS has full virtualization sanbox. ESET has a sophisticated Removal Drive shield.
Removal: CIS > ESET, CIS did a great move by introducing CCE in CIS (even if it is optional).
Surf Protection: ESET > CIS, CIS has no protective feature except via Comodo DNS, when ESET has Web/protocol/SSL filters.
System Responsiveness: ESET > CIS, ESET use more RAM but you don't feel any slowdown which is not all the time true with CIS( the AV gave slowdown in some systems)
GUI/ease of use: ESET > CIS, ESET gui is clean and simple to use, CIS v6 is spoiled with fancy designs and not functional at all for advanced users.
Features/tools: ESET > CIS, ESET system tools are all useful and they added the Anti-theft module , CIS added CCE & Dragon.

depending on what you need both are valid & strong solution.

Hello,

If Kaspersky manages to fix that issue. I would actually go out and buy there product. It is my favorite suite. I wish I could use it. But it uses up so much resources, it's worse then McAfee. In terms of protection though Kaspersky is miles ahead of McAfee ;)

Right now I am going back and fourth between avast! and COMODO. I cannot choose which one. They are both great. I am now using avast! I cannot wait for version 8 to come out! COMODO was around 18MB on my system and avast! is around 14MB. Both are very light! :D
