I'm new at this--only my 2nd time asking for help. Can't be certain I've created this thread properly.

Hello,

They call me TwinHeadedEagle around here, and I'll be working with you.

Before we start please read and note the following:
  • At the top of your post, please click on the "Watch thread" button and make sure to check Watch this thread...and receive email notifications. This will send an email to you as soon as I reply to your topic, allowing me to solve your problem faster.
  • Please do not install any new software during the cleaning process other than the tools I provide for you. This can hinder the cleaning process. Please do not perform System Restore or any other restore.
  • Instructions I give to you are very simple and made for complete beginner to follow. That's why you need to read through my instructions carefully and completely before executing them.
  • Please do not run any tools other than the ones I ask you to, when I ask you to. Some of these tools can be very dangerous if used improperly. Also, if you use a tool that I have not requested you use, it can cause false positives, thereby delaying the complete cleaning of your machine.
  • All tools we use here are completely clean and do not contain any malware. If your antivirus detects them as malicious, please disable your antivirus and then continue.
  • If during the process you run across anything that is not in my instructions, please stop and ask. If any tool is running too much time (few hours), please stop and inform me.
  • I visit forum several times at day, making sure to respond to everyone's topic as fast as possible. But bear in mind that I have private life like everyone and I cannot be here 24/7. So please be patient with me. Also, some infections require less, and some more time to be removed completely, so bear this in mind and be patient.
  • Please stay with me until the end of all steps and procedures and I declare your system clean. Just because there is a lack of symptoms does not indicate a clean machine. If you solved your problem yourself, set aside two minutes to let me know.
  • Please attach all report using
    fjqb1h.png
button below. Doing this, you make it easier for me to analyze and fix your problem.

  • Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay for the repair.
  • If I don't hear from you within 3 days from this initial or any subsequent post, then this thread will be closed.

FRST search

Once again we shall use FRST for additional checks. Re-run FRST/FRST64 by double-clicking:
  • Copy Obrona Block Ads into the Search: field in FRST then click the Search Registry button.
  • FRST will search your computer for files and when finished it will produce a log Search.txt in the same directory the tool is run.
  • Please attach it to your reply.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

I think you'll need to send me URL's. None of the links you sent me are "live". I.e., they are not "clickable"--the blue stuff...these:

Also, keep in mind that I'm communicating with you via another computer--NOT the one we're working on. So once I download something I have to port it on a thumb drive to my new W8 which we're working on.

You do not need any URLs, ignore Blue stuff, read the text below.

fixlog is attached

My problem may be fixed: I am now able to access the Internet.

What else needs to be done to make SURE it's fixed and cleaned up?

and is there anything you recommend to otherwise improve performance?

Ed, there is no url, blue writing is just the step "title". Below the title are instructions.

Yes, but I have to have an .exe file in order to follow the instructions to "re-run Malwarebytes AntiMalware. I don't know what download sites are trustworthy.

I see that you already have MalwareBytes installed?

LOL! So I do. I thought that we had deleted everything after the work I did with Argus last time. Never thought to look and see if it was there. Log is attached.

Is this something I should run periodically? If so, will it be relatively easy for me to learn how to read the results? And is there anything else I should run regularly? How about AdwClean, for example?

Omigosh! I just ran it, but I can't figure out where it put the scanlog! I did a search and found the scanlog from 2/4/15, when I was working for Argus, but nothing for today!

There's so much I don't know. Frustrating.

Yes, you can run it periodically.

Did MalwareBytes find something?

How is your PC now?

:) I can't say whether MalwareBytes found anything, because I can't figure out where it put the scanlog!

My PC is improved, but I still have times when it is so slow accessing the internet that it times out and I get "connection reset" messages. E.g., around 7pm tonight I could NOT get into the MalwareTips site, nor could I get into most other sites. A few sites didn't time out and eventually connected (like my bank).

"Clue" is in my instructions. Read it from the beginning to the end carefully and you will find out how to get report.

 OK. You got me. "When all else fails, read the directions!" You enjoyed that, didn't you.

Now...PLEASE, PLEASE tell me this: I ran it and when it's done it closes immediately. I tried reopening it and it just started the scan over--no "Apply Actions" button or anything else. I've tried this THREE TIMES! Another clue, please?
