This topic only applies to you if you have a TOTAL subscription.

A new app called ID PROTECTION has now replaced KEY in My F-Secure as part of our new offering to prevent identity theft. ID PROTECTION offers not only a password manager, but also email monitoring to keep track of data breaches and other cyber-security incidents that may affect your passwords and personal data. With F-Secure TOTAL, the number of ID PROTECTION licenses and monitored items is determined by your TOTAL subscription. For example, if you have a 5-device subscription, you can have ID PROTECTION on five devices with up to five email addresses monitored.

As with your other TOTAL apps, you install ID PROTECTION on mobile and desktop devices through My F-Secure with your account credentials.

Personal I'm not too interested in the data breach feature, but more of the password manager. I tested the old version, but can't recall everything as that happened more then a year ago.

Just installed this new version and it was super easy import from other managers, but it only works as intended in either Chrome or Firefox.
In Firefox ( don't have and don't use Chrome ) after the main setup, that included installing an extra extension, I was a bit surprised how smooth and fast it actually is. From the main UI in ID-Protection it open sites in the default set browser and if that ain't FF or Chrome, one is forced to enable a system autofilling setting that in the end only partially works. One also have to reset the autofilling option to browsers, as otherwise nothing happens in FF.

I'll test it for a few days to see if I missed out on something, but for now and especially since I use Opera as my default browser, this feels like it needs much more improvements.

Un-installed.

I recall now why I gave up the first time. It's not as fast as other password managers. It's also not compatible enough. The whole project seems IMO as something F-Secure should give up instead of try fix by simply add another feature. Their other products is more then solid enough.

I agree! Once I went with 1Password I found it hard to switch to most of the AV-included password managers. They simply don't have the same set of features and cross-platform compatibility.

I'd much rather F-Secure spend time on other parts of the kitchen sink (like a firewall/IDS component, for example), KEY is not a very compelling product, despite me having high regards for SAFE.

I agree with upnorth and macdefender. Have been trying out their ID Protection and kind of disappointed with their per device approach. I have the 5 devices version and that counts per device. There are so many good and free password managers that allow for unlimited devices for syncing. I know they prefer to store your own passwords on the user's devices vs their server but make it more practical. Uninstalled for now and using Lastpass.

Please avoid make this thread into another, What is the Best Password Manager. It exist much better sections and even poll threads for that. Not sure where, just ask. (y):coffee:

More then 2 years ago since I last tested ID Protection, and in the light of the latest password manager ( PM ) debacle and also constant breaches, I thought why not take it out for another spin a few days and see what F-Secure hopefully improved, or not. I already own a TOTAL license so this was just a matter of download it from My F-Secure. I thought about creating a brand new thread, but naah this will do just fine as it might be interesting to read some of the previous issues encountered and compare.

What is ID Protection?

It's a separate security software product/client that installs local and it ain't free, but possible to either test for 5 days as a pure standalone installation package or 30 days if one goes with TOTAL. TOTAL is F-Secures 3 product in 1. Their AV, VPN and ID-Protection. ID-Protection is cross-platform compatible for both Windows, Android, macOS and iOS. I'm testing this on Windows 10 for a few days to begin with and will update later with more info.
F-Secure ID PROTECTION's Monitoring helps you protect your personal information, such as usernames, passwords, and credit card numbers by alerting you on the breached online services that you are using and by giving you specific instructions on how to recover from the incident with minimum damage.

You need passwords everywhere nowadays, and it's difficult to remember them all. Most people solve this by using the same password for everything, or by using passwords that are easy to guess. With F-Secure ID PROTECTION's Vault, you can store and access all your passwords easily, securely and privately, and even generate strong, unique passwords whenever you need to.

ID protection consists of 2 parts. The Monitoring and the Vault ( password manager ). I'll start off with the Vault. All passwords are saved locally inside the software. There is zero access to the passwords and urls online in the My F-Secure account, other then a license connection.

The installation process is pretty straight forward and took less then a minute.

It's the first setup with creating F-Secures Master Password, and then for example import passwords from another manager, along with install the extensions and make sure all that works, that takes time. It's a necessary hassle.

My own main browser is Opera and F-Secure does not officially support that vendor, but since Opera is working well enough nowadays and one can install any Chrome extensions I just had to find the correct url.
Password Manager by F-Secure

I will also test this on Edge and Firefox as I have both browsers installed.

Second days impression is, they have improved it. But one have to use to the keyboard more in those cases the Autofill feature don't work. Yesterday almost no sites was filled in on the spot when the url opened. I had to use the recommended keyboard combination.
Ctrl + Alt + v
Today it was working as intended, but I'll test that more the upcoming days...

Day 4 and I'm still using it, but I start to doubt I will in the end keep it.

Security for the Vault itself because it's a local machine/system solution, is very strong and less worries about any cloud breaches. Why this might not attract enough users is the still somewhat clunky use. Getting stuck on some sites, and being forced use 1 or 2 extra clicks or a keyboard combination from time to time for the autofill and no option for auto-login ( autofill and auto-login is not the same ) etc etc could easy become annoying. Other vendors that specialise on this has a huge head start that unless F-Secure invest with more developers, as I get a feeling there ain't too many working with it because of the slow progress, I guess it will never get the needed air under it's wings and just remain pretty unknown for the majority. It has improved and to the point good enough as I'm not going to throw this out as fast as the last time. The also updated and improved monitor service gives this a much better potential.

Without pay to much attention to any marketing language ( sell pitch ) in the end about some insurance I haven't seen any actual information/links about, here's a video that shows parts of the monitor service. Previous was a pure copy of the HaveIBeenPwned ( HIBP ) service. With the much more detailed information, this is now getting interesting as one can actually get alerts on breaches and exact what was leaked. Included the actual password. Not for all breaches, but those that does, gives one a good hint/tip on what to avoid for future use as these leaked credentials will be tested by attackers sooner or later, unless they haven't already.

Haven't tested the phone version and should probably for a more fair end assessment.
