Every year in December, Yahoo! Finance selects a "Company of the Year" that takes into consideration parameters such as market performance and other achievements, with Microsoft taking home the title in 2021. Yahoo! Finance also selects selects a "Worst Company of the Year" based on audience surveys about a company that upset them the most.

Based on surveys conducted of 1,541 respondents, it would seem that Facebook has earned the crown of "Worst Company of the Year", perhaps indicating in part the reason for a company name change to Meta Platforms.

Among the varied reasons why individuals marked Facebook/Meta as the "Worst Company of the Year" include perceptions of censorship, in particular of right and conservative voices, which individuals stated they felt the "free-speech-police" as unfair and should have the ability to communicate whatever they wished on their platform. In contrast, others found that Facebook/Meta was to be blamed for the rise of far-right extremist views.

Another noted complaint against Facebook/Meta includes not policing and monitoring posts enough when perceived significant misinformation was shared on their platform, stating that views of critics influenced individuals perceptions of not taking the overall seriousness of the pandemic's potential.

How ironic that an app that supposedly was meant to bring people closer became so divisive, dysfunctional and such a waste of precious time that could be spent with people in person.
Irrespectively of theirs perceived good or not so good standards, there is something to learn from everybody journey.

Microsoft crowned Yahoo! Finance’s Best Company of the Year 2021
With a list of reasons too almost too long to repeat, Yahoo! Finance has crowned Microsoft their company of the year.

They note that Microsoft has a stunning year, exceeding $2 trillion in market cap, increasing their share price 45% over the course of the year, generating $176 billion in revenue over the same period and has done it all without the scandal and scrutiny other giants such as Facebook, Google and Apple received.

Microsoft is also not resting, pushed further into healthcare with its purchase of AI pioneer Nuance Communications for $19.7 billion, and expanding its gaming business with its Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming.

“I think investors under appreciated the story even going into 2021, thinking there wasn’t that much gasoline left in the growth tank,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives told Yahoo Finance. “In our opinion, it’s not a matter of if, it’s when this company hits a $3 trillion market cap,” he said.

Meta is indeed a cesspool of ignorance, and has actively suppressed discussions that are politically inconvenient. For those really interested in the disgusting way Meta "fact checks" information, see:

Open letter from The BMJ to Mark Zuckerberg
Not only does Farcebook/Meta stifle posts they deem objectionable, they monitor chats as well. I've had a couple where someone and I were discussing politics (of course conservative and 'somewhat' right of center) and had them shut down the chats, claiming they were against community standards. The chats were between two people of like mind. Nobody else could see or read them - except the FB gestapo.
