While it's very important for an antivirus to detect and remove malicious programs, it's almost equally important that the antivirus refrain from identifying valid programs as malicious. In the latest file detection test byAV-Comparatives, false positives made a huge difference in score for several programs.

Crazy Many False Positives
Any product that passes the file detection test earns a rating of at least STANDARD. Those that go above and beyond the basics can earn a rating of ADVANCED or ADVANCED+. If a program doesn't even pass the test, they report it as TESTED. However, the earned rating can be affected by false positives.
