Mozilla launched Firefox Reality in September in an effort to expand its browser offering to various virtual reality (VR) platforms including Oculus, Daydream, and Viveport. Today, the VR browser has received its first batch of updates, introducing a host of new features designed to make browsing the web more intuitive with a headset.

Firefox Reality version 1.1 includes support for 360-degree video content from various sources including YouTube. This feature is supposed to provide a more immersive viewing experience coupled with a new Theater mode which works to dim the surroundings of the playback window. Additionally, the update adds the following features:

  • Additional localization: Chinese (Mandarin - simplified and traditional), French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean
  • Expanded voice search support to new localized languages above
  • Bookmarks
  • Automatic search and domain suggestions in URL bar
The new Firefox Reality version also includes improvements to the 2D UI performance, WebVR stability, and fullscreen video playback. The complete list of improvements can be viewed on GitHub.

Meanwhile, Mozilla is working on adding new capabilities for sharing and syncing content such as bookmarks across browsers. Plus, it plans to introduce support for multiple windows and tabs, among other features. The latest updates for Firefox Reality can now be downloaded from the Viveport and Oculus stores. The Firefox Reality app is also available from the Google Play Store.
