Most countries in Asia and Europe are going the e-way. So big companies like GM which sell a lot of cars in China, to be relevant, has to go electric even in the USA.

At my age, by 2035, it won't matter. There's no telling what sort of technology they'll have perfected by then. They might run cars and trucks on radioactive waste that never needs charging or replacement, for all we know. There's bound to be a use for the stuff.
