A hot potato: Days after it was reported that more tech companies and insiders were calling for racially insensitive terms such as whitelist, blacklist, and master/slave to be replaced, Github has revealed it would be removing these words from its service.

Github CEO Nat Friedman said the firm was working to replace the terms ‘master’ and ‘slave’ with the likes of ‘main/default/primary’ and ‘secondary.’ Users will also find ‘blacklist’ and ‘whitelist’ dropped for ‘allow list’ and ‘deny/exclude list,’ writes ZDNet.

The announcement came soon after reports of renewed calls to drop the long-used tech terms following the death of George Floyd and the subsequent Black Live

Well, the way I see it: "blacklist" has a negative connotation. It's exclusionary. "Whitelist" means accepted. So, one can subconsciously ascribe it to the general racist mindset, ie: black is "negative," white is "positive." Masterlist--master. It has connotations related to slavery.

In this single context, it's a good change and not too awkward to adopt. But like with anything, you can get silly and phony and overdo things for the sake of correctness. It's a volatile time alright.... but the murals of George Floyd can touch your heart. Have the ones in charge learned anything yet?

Computers are our slaves (for now?), so it isn't racist in any way cause we aren't referring to human beings, SJWs are always misunderstanding things to get excuses for their acts.

Soon you will be consider to be racist when someone ask you do you like color black and you say no. Welcome to modern society where you cannot make a simple joke without someone feeling getting hurt.

After some time they will have to change these terms (master/slave) because of the obvious discrimination of sadists and masochists.
Furthermore, the slave would be a poor replacement for black, bearing in mind the history of America.:(

♀Relationships that can only be established as a pair♂The names of connector terminals that have cleared the problem of gender discrimination are excellent.

I think the question isn't the word, but the feeling of discrimination when using the word. To me, word regulation seems like a simple performance.
