Google has announced a new update that introduces warning banners in Google Drive to alert users of suspicious files for enhanced security. Earlier on, the same resource was announced at Google Cloud Next 2021 and would display the warning banner when opening Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings.

With this update, supplementary safety measures have now come to Google Drive as well for protection against abusive content and behavior. Now, when a user opens a file that is potentially dangerous or suspicious in Google Drive, the company will "display a warning banner to help protect them and their organization from ransomware, phishing, and malware." The warning banner will also inform users that the suspicious file "might be used to steal your personal information."

Google has also mentioned that there is no admin control and no end-user setting for this feature, and that it will be enabled by default. The capability is now being rolled out in a staggered manner and will be available to Google Workspace, G Suite Basic, and Business users within the next 15 days.
