I noticed a rather huge upgrade happened in the background (possibly today?) with Heimdal. It uninstalled the old one and installed the new one. You can enable 'Update to Release Candidate' in settings and it seems like the new product will automatically push over the next day or two.

Upon examination, it appears the product has been renamed. Also it appears the RC is the first rollout of the new Thor Vigilance antivirus/antimalware aspects. Note: My screenshots are from a test machine, but they show 36,466 days left on my license because I have all lifetime licenses.

Quite interesting find there @Slyguy ! Looks like things are going to be changing up quite a bit there at Heimdal!! Not seeing any change on their products page just yet. Link: Security Products and Solutions - Heimdal

However, I do see the renaming of the products after clicking on the individual products on the products page. I'm quite interested to see where the company is headed to with the renaming. Glad to see your lifetime license is still good @Slyguy !

@Lightning_Brian if your curious I previously shared a video a few months back with Heimdal Securitys CEO Morten Kjaersgaard that explains alot of this changes we now start to see. It's a bit long but well worth.

Heimdal Security CEO End of Year Update and Developments

The RC version is the equivalent a Beta version and personal I'll wait as I don't want any unnecessary issues on my machines. Thanks for the share @Slyguy and keep us updated. (y)

I suggest to hold for now and wait for a stable release, play with this RC on test machines, this ver 2.5.130 RC caussed me a lot connection issues with Windows Windscribe VPN v1.82 Build 17, couldnt get traffic filtering to work with manually set TCP/UDP ports, Heimdal not setting properly it's local DNS 127.7.7.x servers for new network adapters. UI is also not finished yet, but imo it looks very promising. (y)

@upnorth 's linked video is really great insight how Heimdal works. It should be redirected to anyone asking about Heimdal technologies.

@upnorth Thanks!! Good video that I think everyone should take a look at.

I'm glad the lifetime accounts are still valid (as they should be) @Slyguy ! Thanks for letting us know that key information there.

Happy that the company is making some good changes to their software.

Haha Heimdall with dubbel l is in Nordic mythology the guard of the gods. He is one of the sons of Odin. Thor is the most fameous son of Odin.

Has anyone tested this security solution agaist a malware pack? I don't understand the magic of this software updater plus URL filter. But then I am Dutch and the 'nether lands (low lands)' were occupied by the Romans in the same period as the English, so we lost contact with German/Nordic religion/mythodology quite early.

I agree with davisd. Heimdal doesn't let the wi-fi connections work, one has to stop heimdal processes and then re change the dns servers entry in settings. Heimdal works with LAN connections though.

@Slyguy Is this accurate?
  1. Heimdal Free = Thor (Home) Vigilance
  2. Heimdal Pro = Thor (Home) Foresight
  3. Heimdal Corp = Thor Enterprise

Thor Vigilance is Heimdal next gen antivirus solution already incorporated in the enterprise product (Heimdal Corp/Thor Premium), so I dont think it is accurate.

I think the free version will be all about "X-ploit Resilience".

X-ploit Resilience - Heimdal Security

This new RC version is very interesting, it seems that Heimdal plans to deploy a next gen antivirus for home users too.

I updated to the latest RC and have noticed a TREMENDOUS increase in Heimdal's ability to block malicious websites. So much so, I am inclined to think they are now licensing another technology for Web Filtration. Before, it would mostly be relegated to blocking strange malware or suspicious sites, now it's blocking virtually every malicious and phishing site I throw at it.

Curious.
