Thanks for the post. Made me look for the discount code. This appears to be a good time to buy Heimdal's security solution. The coupon/voucher code "blog70" results in a discount of 70 percent off. Enjoy! There are more than a few features that make this product attractive.

So I installed this, by itself....Very fast, low use of resources....

Then installed Comodo Firewall with it, since that is like Avira + Comodo Firewall, without the luke file walker, and GUI.....

Used CS settings, and all set....

PC very responsive, Apps open super fast, no web slowdowns ETC,
Sorry for this novice question, but I don't follow your statement that CF is like Avira + CF. I didn't think CF included Avira, did you possibly mean the free version of CIS which includes their firewall? TIA, this looks like it could be an interesting combo worth evaluating further! (y)

I guess English isn't his first language. What he meant is that using Thor Vigilance with Comodo Firewall provides the same as Avira Free with CF without the Avira nags.
Thanks very much to you both, I just misunderstood the intended meaning. :emoji_ok_hand:

Seems legit, since Avira proper is a bloated mess with that junk launcher and embedded Mixpanel spying. Thor eliminates all of the rubbish, frames it in a great interface, and you are good to go.

I defend the idea that premium is useless. I'm not a fan of heimdal, I had used it for half a year and it seemed good (not excellent). I think it's much more solid Heimdal pro + Kaspersky free.

It is necessary to write so many posts continuously. I think the forum is not Twitter to write 240 characters in 4 post in a row.

There's also a lifetime promotion on StackSocial that appears to be an even better deal: A Must-Have Addition to Your Antivirus: Close Security Holes to Prevent Cyber Attacks!
Hello
Your voucher "blog70" and the lifetime license are for "Thor Home Foresight" and not for "Thor Home Premium" !

There is irrational exuberance around this product.

It has never been that good.

As Heimdal Pro, it had three components.

1. Filtering. Look at Evjl's Rain's tests of filtering (right here at MalwareTips). Heimdal did not do very well. There are better filters out there that produce fewer complications. The two free products of MBE-B & Netcraft offer superior results.

2. Software Update. According to their own numbers... the software update of free patchmypc or Sumo far exceeds what Heimdal updates.

3. Outbound connections. Many security apps can cover this. Although I'm interested in finding the best one..

And then... like many security apps finally discover... the market for people who want to pay for more than one security product is limited. So like MBAM and so many others... a 'full product' is produced as a replacement for an AV/Firewall.

Thus Thor Vigilance was born. Oh, and watch. Cylance will eventually arrive at the same conclusion.

Assumption -- so if you use Thor Vigilance -- you now have to use the Thor Vigilance AV -- it is not a supplemental product like MBAM.

But I don't want to use Avira (the Vigilance AV).

In the meantime, there have been lots of technical issues for those using these products. And the company cannot keep their messaging and information correct.

And... Generally, good products don't have 'fire sales' regularly. They don't need to.

Several people here at MT whose opinions I respect seem to like this product. So I may be totally wrong in my assessment. Time will tell.

But here is my prediction. When AV-C or other testing labs put this product through a full comparative test -- it will end up testing as a very mediocre product.

My verdict: Heimdal (aka Thor) is an overhyped Dog.

That is all.

Well said!

About the Software Updater, it is simple not that good, especially if you are using non-english software. It will not respect the default language of the application and instead will download the english version, something that doesnt happen with Patch My PC.

In my machine the software updater is slow and prone to freeze, it is more noticeable in the RC version (that has a confusing GUI).

The filtering seems to be on par with Malwarebytes 3, I think Heimdal is using hpHOSTS too.

By no means Heimdal/Thor is a bad software, but I have a problem with its price, with its fancy marketing (DarkLayer Guard, VectorN, X-Ploit Resilience, 100 % detection) and the mess that they are doing with their new lineup.

I have 693 days left on Heimdal Pro. I use as an AV Emsisoft or KIS - I have a long licence for KIS (which has a firewall) and can be obtained legitimately extremely cheaply from 7 Day Shop from time to time & elsewhere. Unless I'm missing something big I cannot see a single reason who I should pay £47 for a 3-year licence for what is still an untested product & for which I have already paid for half of it anyway. (They do seem to have forgotten that) No doubt when the full product (Thor Foresight) is released I will have a advert as part of the GUI to upgrade to Thor Premium, I could be wrong about that however. Am I missing something here? Do the people at this company ever have conversations with each other?? :)

@Burrito I fully respect your verdict. Personal I have not done any conclusive tests so wouldn't surprise me if it exist better filters and even other update products as many clearly points out. It has in a few occasions blocked pages that other filters I use wasn't able to catch and for me it's been sufficient enough updating a few of the basic installed products and the biggest choice why I still use it is because I never payed a single cent as I easy found promotions. It's plain and simple a extra little layer that dosen't effect the machine negative. At least not the machine I use it on but I know others sadly been affected but I'm 100% talking about the old product Heimdal Pro. This new version I only have to go on what you guys report about here and thats great and interesting to read about, and I'm looking forward to more views.

The marketing and sales itself could and should have been better IMO as of now even I gets a bad taste in my mouth, specially when I read what happened with some people in this thread. It clearly IMO is a lack of communication from Heimdal Security and they could easy improve it. There support has in general always been very fast and quick what I noted and I can guess they have a lot of work right now. There Webmaster on the other hand should IMO get sacked on the spot because it's not rocket science create a few notifications in the correct sections ( not only the main page ) that updates are in progress.
