I’m interested in IT and computers because my dad was. Now I’m far more into it than him, just launched off his shoulders I guess.

I’m an accountant by schooling, but my official job title is financial analyst. I do not like accounting or finance anymore, but I do like paying the bills. One day I would like a job in infosec/netsec, or even IT in general. But, if it’s only a hobby I can dream of having the free time to pursue that hobby.

I am a student of Mechanical Engineering. I got accepted in university last year. Right now future doesn't seem bright for mechanical students but I hope situation will change. I'm more interested in research than office job. And most important I love my laptop that's why I am here.

My redeemer lives. Missing RC and Ravi. Covid sucks. My nieces are visiting and hitting me up for Robux. I'm an avid reader of popular science books. I can't stand Penrose or Harris. Mayr is better than Dawkins and Plomin is right but its problematic (apparently). I'm always trying to break my own programming. I know I can but now I want to know if I should. I wish I could computer like Donald Knuth. I try to keep up with the "girls can (and must) do anything" pressure of modern progressive righteous thought. Danger Close by Amber Smith was great and so was The Gamekeeper by P. Simpson. Still can't throw much of a punch. Oh well.

A little fact about me:
I paid $640 for all US embassy visa interviews over the past years since 2012, during Obama. All was non-refundable.
Each time I didn't get a visa due to Section 214(b).

It was my dream and goal to have a chance to have a visit to the US.
Due to some reasons back to many years ago, it's hard to erase that dream of mine, but now I only keep it in the corner of my head, not as a current plan, because I couldn't achieve it.
Maybe in the future.
Canada and Europe are great, but I love America beyond words.

Depression made me stronger, of course, with the help of a great psychiatrist and meds.
If I didn't have depression and could study at the university, I could easily apply for a US visa.

I am a bookworm and love watching motivational and inspirational movies. I mostly read personal development and self-help books when it comes to books, and I am very picky about which book I should read.

I am a would-be full-time blogger and internet marketer, YouTuber, and writer. I am gifted in storytelling.

I have been told that I have such a lovely gift in storytelling and social intelligence.

Anyway, that was a tiny bit of my bio.

Your story is smh similar to mine except for the books and the storytelling. I applied for a US visa twice back in 2001 and 2002 and I was rejected both times without any convincing reason. My dream is to live and work in the US too. As for depression, I too had and still have it and I've been living on meds most of my life. I get depressed again whenever I stop the meds. I had many dreams when I was younger but none worked for me. My recnt dream is to start a chips factory and I hope it works but I'm waiting for the economical crisis to end in my country first to start with my new business.
As for my interests, I'm really interested in cars, youtube videos, bodybuilding, movies, furniture and of course girls  Oh! and I love the ocean. I hope you'll achieve your goals my friend.

Why are you interested in IT/Technology/Security?

It's my career at the moment, and I'm sure it's going to continue being my career for a while, but I may pivot to a more interesting/fun career later in life. I got into it because my father was in this industry for a while late in his life and it's one of the few fields I know I excel at and can make a good income at. I always wanted to know how PCs work, how websites work, and so on, so it's only natural that I'd get into the IT industry. Security was never my focus, but it slowly crept its way into my life due to how important it is. Security and accessibility are my primary and secondary goals with most projects.

What's your chosen career, or job title? How did you get started?

I'm a full stack web developer with my focus mostly on PHP legacy systems. I started pretty late into my 20s after many years dreaming and wanting to do other, more easily understood things (like art or animation) but never being able to make those other things pay me a living wage. I started freelancing as a web designer, made a lot more money than I expected once I added Drupal and PHP as skills, and went on from there. I joined a retail company a few years ago and have helped modernize their systems where I can and secure their systems as well. I also work a lot on development of new software and maintain a lot of load-balanced servers as part of a team.

If a student, what are your future career goals?

I have a Bachelor's Degree in IT, but I don't recommend going the same route as me. Student debt ruins your life. Just don't do it. I'm self-taught despite the degree. The degree will not get you a job. The degree will most likely do the opposite.

Hello, I am interested in Cybersecurity because of the constant evolution and challenges, as well as broad choice of careers. Currently solutions architect (it's been about a month) which has been my career goal for the past year. Looking forward to speaking with like minded people

Depends on the Country you are in:

Here in Germany we have the institution IHK - They Academically advance your expertise.
Example:
- IT-Sicherheitsbeauftragter = IT security officer (State Approved degree)
- Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration = Specialist for system integration (Trainee Job for 3 Year to complete and you receive that Title and are also recognized in all branches of Business here in Germany) [Dual-System] 50% Job and 50% Specialized School for that Branch of Study

The other part is high class Certification with continued enrollment / credits CISSP - CISSA - CISM by ISC² those are quite a handful and you need to have pre-requisites to be acknowledged the Title!

CompTIA A+ and Security+
Cisco CCNA
Are a good starting point but to advance more in to the Security you need experience in the field. Then advance with that knowledge to higher horizons. There is almost no amount of videos that can replace on the field use. Like this the Theory learned can be applied properly and a project never goes as planned ;)

Sincerely
Val.

P.S.
I myself am:
IHK Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration
IHK Ausbilder ADA [Allowed to Train in my Profession] Instructor
IHK Prüfer [A part of the Examination staff for branch of specialization]
So I can speak of Experience here in Germany and what Company's look for here :D

Hello,

I'm at a loss now, cause my career kinda fell apart for me after lockdowns and everything.. I thought about penetration testing job, it requires only some minimum web developing knowledge, as far as I know. But I'm not sure, maybe I should start learning the basics at least.

What are some easy courses for beginners?

Hello guys,

Sarfaraz here from Bombay and It's been a month since I've decided about making a career in Cybersecurity. I was very clear after seeing huge growth and future in cybersecurity due to the increase in the use of technology. The problem here is that I'm not able to decide where to start. If someone is already going to suggest any Cyber Security course then make sure you suggest the best because I've already read lot of articles on internet and everybody says the different thing.

Here I'm aware that I'll get the professional answer and that's what I'm looking for. I need some good suggestions regarding certifications for Cybersecurity. Anyone who has a great experience in this field would be highly grateful if they could give some moment and share their response in the comment. It's already October and by the end of it, I'm looking forward to join some of the Cyber Security course class to get certified.
