Is there any good reason to have hidden files and folders (Windows)? What if I simply unhide them and leave it that way?

I think it is a good idea to untick that option. By doing so, you ll be able to see, for example, the App Data folder in Windows 7. That folder replaced the old Document and settings folder in XP.

There is also an option to untick system files, that one I would leave it as it is. Hiding those files is probably the safer way for doing things.

They are hidden by default because they are important files and hiding them makes them harder to move or delete. You may need to view these though and there is no reason why you cant make them viewable

Just combined wisdom from the both of you, and kept system files hidden, and revealed the rest.

That is the safest way so you dont accidentally remove or mess up important system files.

There's heaps of good reasons to have the hidden folders/files turned on. You get to hide all your favourite videos. /sarcasm
