How long does the AV vendors keeps their malware sample signatures? I know a fact that Malwarebytes will not detect malware that is more than 2 months old, but what about the others such as Kaspersky, BitDefender, ESET, Avira and others you name it.

They should put malware older than two months old in the cloud, so users are still protected but signatures are not taking up a lot of space.

Well we cannot say how long does AV vendors keep it cause for sure they remove many obsolete signatures from time to time bases which will not sacrifice the overall protection. But usually those range longer than 6 months are indeed not necessarily at all however considering the factors that those common viruses are still remain to infect due to common prevalent instrument like Flashdrive and other stuffs.

Malware keeps evolving with new variants showing up from time to time,so the basic signature for an older version changed slightly to accomodate the new variants helps in preserving a bigger protection database, killing 2 birds(of the same nest)with one and in keeping the malware inventory organized, yet updated.
