hi guys,

If you are used to often reinstall your system from scratch and you only have Win8 installation disk/recovery partition and you want update right away to Win8.1 without downloading and installing the whole pack of updates (around 750mb...that will be deleted anyway) for Win8; this is what you have to do:

1- open Windows Updates
2- check for updates
3- your PC needs Windows updates, KB 2871389 and KB 2917499, before Windows 8.1 becomes available to you in the Store; look for them in Windows Updates and install them.
4- reboot, Windows will install the updates.
5- it is done, now you can upgrade to Win8.1 via Windows Store

good luck :D

Info & Download (x86 and x64) standalone updates:

Update is available that prepares Windows 8 and Windows RT-based computers for the update to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2871389

Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1 upgrade information is not displayed as expected in Windows Store
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2917499

Note: Windows RT devices can only obtain these from Windows Update. Windows 8.1 has been released for a few months already. To get the Update 1 release, Windows 8.1 is required.
