Welcome to MalwareTips! :)

welcome
combofix is one of the best tool for cleaning badly infected pc, she can start with MBAM and if there is still problem she can use it. it doesnt work on 8
guide

ComboFix is a very powerful tool and should only be used when you're asked to by an expert. If you don't know what you're doing you can easily destroy your computer, so watch out for that.

destroy what? the cpu?
two things you need
one disable your AV real time protection
just double click and your done
the rest it will do.
so far i never had prob with it, i've used it at least 500 times. i had prob with other so called safe software like super anti spyware and even MBAM (7 years ago) but never ever had prob with combofix. it is my first priority after msert.exe and these day the great MBAM.

do not be afraid to use it

After running an antivirus can with Malwarebytes as has been suggested above, download this program (in chrome) and run it, just download, open and click the "Apply" button.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/iefix,1.html

It works by repairing the Internet Explorer files which can be changed by viruses, for example a virus can alter Internet Explorer so as the virus starts as well, and when the virus is deleted, this can mean Internet Explorer can't open either (one has come to depend on the other).

Anyways, welcome to MalwareTips, everybody around here is really friendly, I'm sure you'll love it, and the people here wil help you have that computer fixed in no time at all :)

Since I ran the downloads to get rid of "eliminate this file has a virus it's been deleted" I haven't been able to connect to the web with IE, only Chrome.

AV stands for Anti-Virus software, EG: AVG, Mcafee, Norton, Comodo Antivirus, Avast, ESET to name a few

MBAM (BMAM) stands for MalwareBytes Anti Malware which is a program specialising in removing malicious software from your computer. It's what we recommend people with infections run as it's pretty thorough and much more lightweight (easier, running faster, using less power on your computer than other programs)

You aren't supposed to use ComboFix unless instructed like @Mateotis said.

This must be what happened to me.

You don't say you're experiencing any problems with any other programs on your computer (they all open fine, not slower than usual?), and you can access the internet (with chrome) so my 2 cents is that a virus, more likely something called Adware which stands for Advertising Software (displays pop up ads, hides links to offers and coupons in web pages, generally tries to extract money from you etc), anyway my guess is this adware has infected Internet Explorer on your computer which has caused these problems.

In which case it might be wise to re-install Internet Explorer, but you shouldn't do that until you've run a scan with MBAM, if you're having trouble with that there's a great article right here to guide you through it: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/scan-malwarebytes-anti-malware-2-0/

And you are free to tag me if you need more help or advice, just click reply to any of my posts or type "@Cowpipe" and I'll be notified when you reply and with a bit of luck, come to the rescue, if one of the other excellent people here don't beat me too it :p:D

This link took me to the website but what I got is a program to zip files.

If you go to your "Downloads Folder", that should be available by clicking on Start and opening Documents, and along the left hand side of the screen you should see a button saying "Downloads", if you click that you should find a file called IEFix.zip in there, right click on it and choose "extract", then press Next and Finish when they appear and you should see a file called IEFix.exe appear, that's the one you'll want to open. Hope that helps :)

better to run it in safe mode.:)

And why do you think it is better to run it in safe mode? You feel qualified to tell us how things work, so I would like an explanation why it is better to run MalwareBytes in safe mode?

I do not know why you think you know better that ComboFix authors? Here is what they say:

You should not run ComboFix unless you are specifically asked to by a helper. Also, due to the power of this tool it is strongly advised that you do not attempt to act upon any of the information displayed by ComboFix without supervision from someone who has been properly trained. If you do so, it may lead to problems with the normal functionality of your computer.

ComboFix is very powerful and there is no force that will stop it decide to delete or change something. What is one user that has never met with ComboFix going to do if it deletes something that shouldn't be deleted? How is he going to restore this? I saw people that thought they know how to use ComboFix and they destroyed their systems, without being able to repair it. Only fresh install.

Don't run ComboFix on your own. There are plenty of tools that are safer to be used than ComboFix and if you combine several of them, you can eliminate malware.
