Indonesia has banned PayPal, Yahoo, and notable gaming websites including Epic Games and Steam due to their failure to act in accordance with recent licensing rules.

In November 2020, registration was made necessary for all domestic and offshore companies offering online services in the country. However, signing up for this process also gave authorities the power to urge platforms to release data of specific users and to take down any content that the government deems unlawful or "disturbs public order" within a maximum of 24 hours.

Recently, firms were pressed by the authorities to register under the new licensing rules by Wednesday or risk having their platforms taken down. While over 5,900 domestic companies and roughly 100 foreign companies had registered by Monday, some including Meta and Google did not do so until the deadline was extended till Friday.

This topic is actually trending on Indonesia now especially on Twitter, apart from it's political aspect and protest. There's a possibility that MT would be blocked as well. The main subject of this 'policy' is PSE (Penyelenggara Sistem Elektronik) or Electronic Service Provider which could be many things such as forums, blogs, games, payment gateway, news site etc.

Are you trying to shut out sites that are more entertainment or subculture-oriented, such as games? It seems to me that there are many of those blockades.

I don't think so. The ministry themselves emphasise the word "Electronic System Provider" , you can see their definition here (Indonesian).

Meanwhile, electronic system operators are any person, state organizer, business entity, and society that provides, manages, and/or operates electronic systems individually or jointly to users of electronic systems for their own needs and/or the needs of other parties.

Moreover, I don't know why more entertainment or subculture-oriented services are blocked first, but this is just the beginning.
