I downloaded a program on Thursday to help with accounting for a non-profit, and of course it seemed legit. I ended up not using it because it wouldn't work for me. I deleted it but by the next day. Either I didn't notice right away or it took doing something else but by Friday I was getting pop-under ads. I used malwarebytes and AdwCleaner which found web-start and search.ask infections. But the problem persisted, and seems to be getting worse. I attached the last log file from AdwCleaner.
I ran Farbar Scan today and attached the file. I deleted Chrome and all the chrome files, re-installed but still have the problems.
There is nothing in the control panel as far a programs either. I just can't seem to figure out where this is coming from!

Thanks so much for the help

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.

Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable.

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!

  • Right-click on
    FRST.gif
    icon and select
    RunAsAdmin.jpg
Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
  • Press the Fix button just once and wait.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  • When finishes FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

The search bar is only in Chrome. yesterday since Chrome was obviously an issue I tried IE and after maybe 5 mins of being online to different sites pop-ups ads and then tabs with ads claiming I had a virus and to call a number would show up and I had to force quit IE, I couldn't just close the tabs. But so far nothing like that is happening in IE, I will keep using it right now to see if it does. I

Also, the search bar doesn't come up when I am in an incognito tab in Chrome- only the regular chrome window. And I can exit out of it- but every new tab has it and whether I type in the address or try to type in search bar it goes into the search bar that re-directs.

I was just in the ingocnito tab and clicked on a link for an article on a local newspaper website and it came up with this
phaekbookdown . org saying I needed an urgent update on chrome.

I reset it, deleted all history as well. Closed chrome, opened it back up and the search bar is still there. :(

Something is still wrong though- I uninstalled Chrome. Re-started the computer. Opened IE up and put google.com into address bar to go reinstall chrome and when I got to the google website the search bar showed up under the address bar that re-directed to play-bar . net again. And then another tab opened another tab with the address of " http: // xml . olmeramarketing . com / redirect?feed=73365& .... "
