As a laptop, I say yes, but for the price I say no. You can build yourself a desktop for that price and it would have better parts too. :)

As, I said in the previous post you can build your own, for less then your price. I was just going off what you had there. As I don't know what your going to be doing with it. ;)

Well, in that case a laptop might be the way to go, though don't know how college works where you are, but if it's where you stay at the college you could build a desktop. :) Plus if you do build one you can always upgrade it in the future. :)

Since my college is in the same city as I am in, I opted not to stay at the dorm. I travel a lot. I need mobile gaming, programming, etc. Honestly, I'd love to build a custom PC or even go for a manufactured desktop but I need a laptop for my needs.

The one I have right now, I have been using it for around 5 years. I can't do much on it other than go on Facebook, light gaming, programming, etc.

I see, well in that case a laptop would be the best option. :)

Remember to consider the weight, and how and where you may need to carry it. Get a decent laptop bag too.

My current laptop is 3.1KG, not the best for taking it places.

A must when buying one.Mine might be heavier than Earth's.I have a 17.3" screen and I dont really game that much anymore on PC which never crossed my mind back when I bought it.I never considered the weight or the size when I purchased it because I have another smaller laptop.Mine came with a backpack style case.I am glad it did because it isnt the easiest to tote around.

The price seems pretty reasonable for that laptop and maybe even a little less than some places like Amazon.Nice specs and probably well worth the money.

Before shelling out that much cash on a laptop you should consider what your needs might be in a couple years. If your not a hardcore PC gamer and gaming might not be a priority down the road you might be able to sacrifice some things and still get one that will give you a lot of bang for a considerably lower price.

laptops for gaming is almost useless, since in the next few years the games will be too heavy to render for the actual laptop.

The graphic card must just good enough to display HD movies that is all.

Very powerful CPU & RAM in case you do heavy graphics or multi-tasking.

my laptop is almost 4 years old and powerful enough for my needs, i am no more a gamer.

damn that's a monster of sammy laptop, but just remmember that kind of hardware runs on the hot side so be sure to clean the dust from the innards at least every six months.

That's about average price for a Samsung of that caliber. You can find reviews on youtube to see it in action before buying. I recently helped my nephew with his Samsung "Intel i3" with windows 7 and it was pretty fluid for the lower end Intel series, had a nice feel to it.

All of that's just a $1000 box of parts without a PSU. Add on another $60-100 for a decent one from Corsair.

Also Ebay can be great for the little things such as cables and adapters. Big stores seriously overcharge for these items.

what is the max price and where do you live?

For instance Acer Ultra M5 - is good for the price that you see. The keyboard is nice to type on, the build quality is decent and it has an dGPU that offers a lot of performance, the cpu is also decent and wont be to much of a bottleneck. However the resolution is not the best and the quality of the screen is TN-panel - you can't expect to do professional photo editing, CAD or anything that requires excellent colour spectrum, good contrast, good reviewing angles and so on. The touch pad is not the best either but you will get used to it.
