Little information about the OS has made it onto the English-speaking side of the internet. Kaspersky Labs Russia told Vulture South to wait a few weeks for the English press release for information.

What we do know is that in 2012 ebullient Kaspersky Lab chief executive officer Eugene Kaspersky described the OS as a ground-up build to help protect industrial control systems.

A more detailed paper published at the time revealed it would be designed to help protect infrastructure like power stations, electricity grids, and telecommunications networks.

It appears the operating system has been deployed in routers manufactured by Russian outfit Kraftway, a company that seems to sell into various industrial control system markets, and verticals including government, healthcare, and education.

The russian article translated (Google Translate, may be inaccurate).

The first user "Kaspersky Lab" of the operating system will Kraftway

OS will be collected separately for each task, he said in an interview with "Vedomosti" Evgeny Kaspersky.KasperskyOS works on the principle of "prohibited all that is not allowed"

The first devices KasperskyOS operating system, "Kaspersky Lab" will install routers in the Russian manufacturer Kraftway IT-equipment. This "Vedomosti" said the representative of "Kaspersky Lab" Maria Shirokov and confirmed senior vice president Kraftway Renat Yusupov.

His operating system (OS), the company developed from scratch, according to Shirokov. Its key property, "Kaspersky Lab" refers to information security, and expresses full traffic confidentiality.

The most common in Russia, Cisco and Huawei routers companies are working on their own (proprietary) operating systems of these manufacturers - respectively IOS and VRP.

The price of the new device will be comparable with similar products Cisco: depending on the configuration, it will be between 100 000 to 200 000 rubles, said Yusupov..According to him, today released the first batch of 1,000 units, the company offers them for testing various state agencies that Yusupov sees the main consumers of the new router. Future demand Yucupov estimates of several thousand devices per month.

Shirokov did not disclose the cost of the license, and Yusupov - the cost of the device. The exact contribution of operating cost in the product price is difficult to estimate, since it is the subject of an agreement between the companies, but we can assume that it is 20 to 30%, says a representative of the association of manufacturers of electronic equipment and appliances. Based on this assessment, on the one device license can do Kraftway in the amount of 20 000 and 60 000 rubles.

"Kaspersky Lab" does not disclose the amount of investment in the development of the OS. An accurate assessment of the costs of creating the operating system is not possible, but subject to a two-year development cycle, it could be about 100 million rubles., The director of the Center for Information Security Competence IT-integrator "Technoserv" Dmitry Ogorodnikov. Costs can run into hundreds of millions of rubles, and even reach the billions, according to deputy director of the Positive Technologies (the analysis of information systems vulnerabilities) Boris Simes.

In 2021 of 28 billion connected devices in the world of 16 billion will come from the IoT-device, refers to the report of Ericsson Mobility Report «Kaspersky Lab". Annual growth of IoT-connections will be 23%.

KasperskyOS does not compete with the massive operating system for PCs and servers, said the head of department of development of technological projects, "Kaspersky Lab" Andrey Nikishin. According to him, it should be applied where security is primary: Now "Kaspersky Lab" is thinking about the possibility of its use in process control systems, telecommunications equipment, medical devices, and the Internet of Things (IoT; cm incision.). Now OS supports processors with the x86-based and ARM, and in the future will learn to work with the Russian "Baikal" and "Elvis", promises Nikishin.

This operating system could be useful in the world of the Internet of things for which there is no network of specialized devices or accepted security standards agreed Ogo.Demand is high, he said, according to his data, in 2020 the security costs of the Internet of things will take up 20% of the annual budget for security against the current 1%.

OS will be collected separately for each task, he said in an interview with "Vedomosti" Evgeny Kaspersky. KasperskyOS works on the principle of "prohibited all that is not permitted", it eliminates the possibility of exploiting both known and future vulnerability, explains Shirokov. The equipment Kraftway system will be integrated into the control module to control the legitimacy of all the requests that are sent to device administrator, she explains.

The groundbreaking this principle is not - as protected Unix-oriented, Ogo said. In Windows-based systems other principle - "everything that is not forbidden", which explains the prevalence of viruses in Windows environments, he says. On Unix-oriented accounts for less than 1% of all malicious programs, Ogo knows.

Developers not only running, but also remedies have moved away from the concept of "forbidden anything that is not allowed" in view of the fact that it slows down the work process, says CEO of Scientific Testing Institute of complex security systems Igor Kalaida. This concept is suitable for highly specialized systems, which rarely change settings (eg, industrial), and agree Kalaida Simes. But for telecom operators, where administrators often have to change the settings, it is not suitable, according Kalaida.

sounds interesting! But I would not touch it with a ten foot pole , just like their security products :). but for bussiness poit of view it is a really big shift in the game.....I am anxious to see if more security vendors will follow!
