For interested users, just check KeePass editions comparison on link below, there are all features listed what missed in KeePass 1.x

KeePass Edition Comparison

KeePass is available in two different editions: 1.x and 2.x. They are fundamentally different (2.x is not based on 1.x). Both editions run on Windows operating systems; KeePass 2.x additionally runs on Mono (Linux, Mac OS X, BSD, etc.). See also the Development Status FAQ.

KeePass comes with built-in sync functionality. Users may sync databases using local files or using URLs. Before we take a look at the process itself, it is important to understand the synchronization logic of the application.

KeePass' synchronization algorithm merges matching entry levels when sync is invoked. The application uses the last modification date as the main data point when deciding about the recency of entries. KeePass keeps track of it automatically whenever an entry is added or modified.

The application uses its history feature when it merges entries. Assume that the same login is available in two databases, but with different passwords. KeePass will merge these and set the most recent username and password as the default after the sync process completes. All other entries are stored in the history, so that they are not lost and may be accessed when the need arises.

Note: it is recommended that you create backups of the databases as a safeguard. While it is unlikely that things will go wrong, it is always better to have a backup for restoration purposes.
  1. To get started with the merging of databases, open KeePass and load one of the databases that you want to merge.
  2. Select File > Synchronize.
  3. Decide whether you want to merge the loaded database with a local file (Synchronize with File) or with a remote file (Synchronize with URL).
  4. Just select the local file if you picked that option. KeePass merges the two databases and displays a short notification in its status bar about the process. If you see "Synchroniztion completed successfully", you are all set and everything should have been merged.
  5. The "by URL" option works similarly, only that you need to type the URL that points to the KeePass database file. You may also add username and password, in case access is restricted.

Closing Words

KeePass 2.51 is a smaller release that improves the user interface and integration. Most of the changes are behind the scenes, but some improve the user experience or give users more control over certain features in the password manager.

hi
but can i know why why the option of master password and keyfile is always ON , even i haven't a master password ?? I have only the keyfile and use onlt a keyfile , I mean version 1.40
is a bug?
thanks for the update

I am using both features Master Password and additional a special "keyfile" AFAIK there is no ability to disable the feature Master Password or I missed something 🤷‍♂️

Quote: "Your KeePass database file is encrypted using a master key. This master key can consist of multiple components: a master password, a key file and/or a key that is protected using the current Windows user account. For opening a database file, all components of the master key are required."

When you talking about KeePass 1.40, there is available an update to download version 1.40.1 maybe that does help in your case...

Password Manager KeePass 2.53 released with password history improvements

Compare is a new feature in History that enables KeePass users to compare to entries in History. The compare button becomes active when two history items are selected (using Ctrl-click).

KeePass displays them next to each other and highlights all the differences between the two data sets.

KeePass users find a new History search option under Find. The password manager displays a chronological listing of all modifications of the entire KeePass password database when launched. Each entry is listed with the modified value which reveals password or user name changes, new entries, or removals.

The Key Derivation settings

keepass key derivation

The second option that KeePass users have is to change the key derivation function and make changes to its number of iterations.

KeePass supports several, including Argon2d, Argon 2id and the classic AES-KDF.

If AES-KDF is selected, KeePass users may either want to increase the number of iterations from the default 60,000 to a higher value, or switch the function to Argon2d instead.

Higher iterations extend the time it takes to enter the password linear. While that may add a small delay to the user's own opening of the password database, it makes brute forcing attacks more expensive as it takes longer to test each password.

Select File > Database Setting and then Security to display the current configuration of the database that is open in KeePass.

The key derivation function lists the function that is used. AES-KDF displays just the number of iterations below, which users may want to increase to 600,000.

KeePass users may also switch to using Argon2d instead, which promises even better protection against brute force attacks.
