Hi and welcome to the malwaretips.com forums!

I'm Jack and I am going to try to assist you with your problem. Please take note of the below:
  • I will start working on your malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine!
  • The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Refrain from running self fixes as this will hinder the malware removal process.
  • It may prove beneficial if you print of the following instructions or save them to notepad as I post them.
Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.

Before we start:
Please be aware that removing malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.
<hr />
You should be able to run both scans while in Normal mode...
STEP 1: Run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in Chamelon mode

<ol>
<li>Download <>Malwarebytes Chameleon from <a title="External link" href="http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/chameleon" rel="nofollow external">here</a> </>and extract it to a folder in a convenient location</li>
<li>Make certain that your PC is connected to the internet and then open the folder where you extracted Chameleon to and double-click on the Chameleon help file and then follow the onscreen instructions to use it.</li>
<li>If the Chameleon help file itself will not open, then double-click each file one by one until you find one that works, which will be indicated by a black DOS/command prompt window <em><>Note:</> Do not attempt to open <>mbam-killer</> as that is not a Chameleon executable and serves a different purpose)</em></li>
<li>Follow the onscreen instructions to press a key to continue and Chameleon will proceed to download and install Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for yo</li>
<li>Once it has done this, it will attempt to update Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, click <>OK</> when it says that the database was updated successful</li>
<li>Next, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will automatically open and perform a Quick scan</li>
<li>Upon completion of the scan, if anything has been detected, click on <>Show Result</></li>
<li>Have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware remove any threats that are detected and click <>Yes</> if prompted to reboot your computer to allow the removal process to complete</li>
<li>After your computer restarts, open <>Malwarebytes Anti-Malware</> and perform a Full System scan to verify that there are no remaining threats</li>
Please add both logs in your next reply.
</ol>
STEP 2: Run a scan with RogueKiller
<ol>
<li>Please <>download the latest official version of </><>RogueKiller</>.
<a href="http://www.sur-la-toile.com/RogueKiller/RogueKiller.exe" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">RogueKiller Download Link</a> (This link will automatically download RogueKiller on your computer)</li>
<li><>Double click on RogueKiller.exe</> to start this utility and then <>wait for the Prescan to complete</>.This should take only a few seconds and then you can <>click the Start button</> to perform a system scan.
<img title="Click on the Start button to perform a system scan" src="http://malwaretips.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/roguek-1.png" alt="[Image: roguekiller-1.png]" width="600" height="450" border="0" /></li>
<li>After the scan has completed, <>press the Delete button</> to remove any malicious registry keys.

<li>Next we will need to restore your shortcuts, <>so click on the ShortcutsFix button </>and allow the program to run.
<img title="Click on the Start button to perform a system scan" src="http://malwaretips.com/blogs/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/roguek-3.png" alt="[Image: roguekiller-1.png]" width="600" height="450" border="0" /></li>

Logs from the Quick Scan and Full System scan performed by Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in Chamelon mode, and from the scan by RogueKiller are attached – I don’t think anything was detected.

However, this may be due to the fact that after my post but prior to following Step 1 from your post, I had already performed steps from the Live Security Platinum – Virus Removal Guide by Stelian Pilici.

I’m not sure if you’d consider this “running self fixes” which in your post above you advised to refrain from doing so, however I use mobile broadband internet and it doesn’t always work at my place so in case I couldn’t get my internet to work to download any programs after you replied, I decided to try some steps from the virus removal guide while my internet was still working.

The following steps were performed:

1. Originally I did start my computer in Safe Mode with Networking but then couldn’t connect online so then just restarted it in Normal mode.

2. I followed the steps to remove the Live Security Platinum malicious proxy server.

3. I followed the steps to repair my Windows Registry from Live Security Platinum malicious changes.

4. I initially tried to follow the steps to do the following from the guide but I couldn’t download any versions of the files required - I kept on being redirected to the Hotmail sign in page - but you will see below that I was later able to download the files:
- Couldn’t run RKill to terminate known malware processes associated with Live Security Platinum,
- Couldn’t remove Live Security Platinum malicious files with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware FREE

5. I followed the steps to check for infections with HitmanPro and used the Forced Breach mode. Malicious files were found and removed.

6. I was then able to follow the steps to run RKill, do you want me to send you the log?

7. I was then also able to follow the steps to remove Live Security Platinum malicious files with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware FREE using the on-demand scanner to Perform full scan. Infections were found and removed.

8. I then ran a scan with ESET Online Scanner – don’t think anything was found.

9. I also ran Microsoft Safety Scanner – 2 things were found.

I wasn’t sure if Chamelon mode is different so performed a Quick Scan and Full System scan using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware in Chamelon mode as per Step 1 in your post.

I then followed the steps in your post to run a scan with RogueKiller, 3 RKreport.txt logs are attached.

I also downloaded Tweaking.com-UnhideNonSystemFiles.exe to unhide my files and folders as advised in the Malware Removal Guide for Windows. But I got confused and accidentally clicked Download Now for Reimage Repair and ran this before I realised it wasn’t the unhide file.

Is Reimage Repair a virus too or a legit product?

What can I do now to check if my machine is clear? I have refrained from checking emails or using internet banking etc. in case my passwords are being traced or my data accessed etc.

<li>Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
-----------------------------------------------------------
<ul>
<li><>Very Important!</> Temporarily <>disable</> your <>anti-virus</>, <>script blocking</> and any <>anti-malware</> real-time protection <em><>before</></em>performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause <em>"unpredictable results"</em>.</li>
<li><em>Click on <a title="External link" href="http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic114351.html" rel="nofollow external"><>this link</></a> to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.</em>
-----------------------------------------------------------</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Close any open browsers.</li>
<li><>WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts</></li>

Hi Jack,

No problems with the above instructions, things "seem" to be running fine - they have been ever since I followed the steps in your first post.

But I just want to check if my machine is clear or if my passwords are being traced or my data accessed etc?

My antivirus (Avast or AVG) did find some tracking cookies when I ran it the other day - are these harmless?

Attached are the logs you requested:

1. HitmanPro log – I couldn’t attach this and got the following error message, even though the item type for this file is a Text Document like the other logs which were able to be attached (but I have copied and paste the contents of the log at the end of this post):
"Please correct the following errors before continuing:
• The type of file that you attached is not allowed. Please remove the attachment or choose a different type."

2. RogueKiller reports x3

3. No ESET log as ESET didn't find any threats, so no report was created

4. I ran the Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer

5. OTL logs x2

Contents of HitmanPro log:
