@Spawn What exactly is a KNOWN threat?
There are Nirsoft utilities classified as malware (not PUP) by some security products.
There are "not-a-virus:*" (as Kaspersky names them) that are deemed "known threats" by most security products.
There are keygens/patches which are by no means malware, but only ethically questionable.
There are FPs which are false identifications as some known threats.

Of course, I suppose detections such as Trj/CI.A (Panda), Trojan.GenericKD.* (Bitdefender), Win32:Malware-gen, Win32:MalwareX-gen [Trj] and FileRepMalware (Avast/AVG) don't qualify as "known threats" ... despite such detections being shared by both harmless keygens and dreadful ransomware.

Either way, knowledgeable people prefer to be asked first.

It's exactly how it reads, but I will let the Experts answer your queries about it.

Downloading Keygens/Warez/Cracks and other questionable software is not advised. 1) for Piracy. 2) Hidden risks.

Out of interest, what were the detection names that McAfee flagged the downloaded Warez?

What do you mean by "for piracy"? You mean that piracy is bad from a moral standpoint and it also breaks the law?
The hidden risk issue is to be treated on a case by case basis.

Warez is a tough name. I don't remember, but I just tried a few files on it:
  • GenericRXFL-EQ!7411C4A1013E for ChessKing2018_KG.exe
  • Artemis!C6BAF8C2FF92 for IDM keygen 3.9
  • RDN/Generic.dx for IDM_Universal_Patch_v5.1_By_DFoX
  • PUP-FIY for AutoPico.exe
  • PUP-XEG-VX for KMSELDI.exe
  • PUP-FIY for Service_KMS.exe

Should KNOWN threats be auto-quarantined? @Ludditus @roger_m
Possibly. I have no issue at all with known malware being auto quarantined. The problem is that a lot of files detected by antivirus software are not actually malicious, for example PUPs, or installers which come bundled with or can download and install other software.

While it would be good if known malware was auto quarantined and users were prompted when something that isn't malicious is detected, there is a big issue with that. Very often, harmless PUPs are wrongly detected as malware. This would lead to files which aren't threats, being auto quarantined too. I don't care if keygens and cracks are auto quarantined, but I do care, if some safe driver updater software is. As a result, I think the best approach is to have auto quarantine as a default setting, but for there to be the option for advanced users to disable it.

The argument against this, put forward by AV companies, is that some users, when prompted when malware is detected will choose to whitelist it and infect their systems. But, if auto quarantine is enabled by default, I don't see this as too much of an issue. Even with auto quarantine, people can disable the real time protection and run malicious files.

it is still not so polished ......i bought a total security license and downloaded a trial version just to see. it is showing 350 days trial version. i contacted the support which by the way is very very very good. they called me twice and tried to fix it but failed miserably . the guy told me that after 20 days is going to come back normal version. what the hack? and why? anyway i think it is lighter than previous but still on the heavy side in terms of opening and closing apps.... still dont like it ...

Maybe it depends on the system. For me, i am using Mcafee internet security ,before i used Avast and then KSCF and i can say the diferrence is huge on impact.Mcafee is much more lighter from both, not in numbers, but in reality,i mean apps, surfing etc.The most annoying is opening the GUI, take ages, but after installing 1903 this also got better.

Why buying it before a trial?
