The Meizu Zero is here - the world's first phone without physical buttons, speaker cutout and even without a USB port for conventional wired charging.

The Meizu Zero uses touch capacitive panels on the side as replacements for the conventional power and volume buttons (similar to what HTC did with the U12+, only without the buttons protruding the frame). For a speaker the Meizu Zero uses a piezoelectric transducer under the display (akin to what Sharp and Xiaomi have done with phones like the Aquos Crystal and Mi Mix).

Removing the USB port is trickier to compensate for. The Meizu Zero is a wireless charging-only phone that offers Meizu-developed 18W charging, making it the fastest-charging phone wirelessly. Data transfers will only be conducted over Wi-Fi and mobile networks.

There's not even a SIM slot on the Meizu Zero - it uses eSIM, similar to the new crop of Apple iPhones.

On the front the Meizu Zero packs a 5.99-inch AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner and a 20MP selfie camera.

On the rear there's a 12MP + 20MP dual camera (consisting of the Sony IMX 380 and IMX 350 AI sensors) while on the front there's a 20MP selfie camera. There's a Snapdragon 845 to power the Zero.

RAM, storage and battery remain to be seen and there's still no official word on availability or price. The Meizu Zero will come in Black or White.

Button-less phones are an interesting niche. We know vivo is bringing such a phone tomorrow but Meizu rushed to beat them to the punch. 2018 was a good year for smartphone innovation with pop-up cameras and sliders and it looks like 2019 is shaping up to be just as exciting.

Another 'holeless' phone in the making. It seems that 'holeless' phones will be a trend in 2019

Vivo's Apex 2019 concept phone has no buttons, cutouts, or ports!

A few weeks ago, pictures of a mysterious Vivo phone was leaked claiming to show a new "revolutionary design that will subvert people's past perception of smartphones."

Vivo has now unveiled that phone officially, at an event in Beijing, and it's definitely revolutionary. The Apex 2019 is a concept phone with no input ports, no buttons, and an almost bezel-free display. It has a full-screen in-display fingerprint scanner and 5G connectivity.

The Vivo Apex features a “Super Unibody” curved glass design that has absolutely no ports or chassis holes. That means, no headphone port, no USB-C port, and no speaker grilles. According to Vivo, the screen itself vibrates to act as a speaker.

The phone is charged via a rear-mounted magnetic connector that also allows for data transfer. Strangely enough, it does not support Qi wireless charging, which seems like it would have been a must-have for this phone.

The phone is one of the first with a full-display fingerprint scanner. Rather than the more common in-display readers that require you to place your finger on a specific spot, the Apex's scanner will work wherever you touch the display.

In terms of hardware, the Vivo Apex 2019 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor and will also include the Snapdragon X50 5G modem for 5G connectivity. It will have 12GB RAM, matching Lenovo's Z5 Pro GT.

There's a dual camera module on the back of the phone, but so far, Vivo hasn't released any specific information about it. The selfie camera is still a mystery. It doesn't appear to have a slider or a cutout so either it doesn't have a selfie camera or Vivo has some kind of amazing in-display camera they've yet to unveil.

Vivo will be bringing the Apex 2019 to MWC next month, so we'll know more about it then.

There are some Waterproof phones with Ports available on the market (2018), how is this any better? If it fails the Bend test, then it's game over. And this is just more rubbish to sit next to the "foldable display" in phones trend.
